Dow is the old term for declare war isn't it? I forget...anyway, thats what I meant and from what I have read...and I have read alot, (although i might have missed somthing) we won't be able to attack people we don't have a "casius belli" (Yes it is prob spelled wrong and not exactly how it works in this game but bare with me) But I think this would be..er...bad...wouldn't it be much better (And truer to life) to be able to attack anyone and you lose piety, honor, whatever, depending on who you attack...anyway..

I think that is pretty much the way that it will be implimented. Sure you can go ahead and make a Swedish invasion of Gwenydd, but no one will "respect you in the morning."

If I am understanding this correctly, Serg and the gang is attempting to make the game true to the time. For example when William the Bastard wanted to take the English Crown, all of his wailing about Harold breaking oaths and such were ignored by a lot nobility and such. Only when he received the Papal Banner (he claimed that Harold was a desecrator of the Church), did the nobility and knights flock to the invasion plan of 1066.

So the idea of a true CB on the province will most likely, IMHO, determine whether or not that the local nobility actually turn out the troops for your goals of conquest.

Humm... I pretty positive that there can be no DoW's in CK without proper casus belli (= a good excuse for war :)).

well historically nobody DoWed anybody withouth their proper Cb be it, a familiar issue, territorial issue or religious issue.

I wonder if there will be a way through diplomacy to solicit papal blessing for a DOW.

There should be some mechnism to buy papal favor and exploit corruption of the church. Phillip the Fair did it with the templars and basically exterminated the order by bribing the pope.

CB is well and good but how do they come about? If you cant DOW without one then how is a new one obtained by a 3rd party?

I guess the question is how do new CB's happen if you can only DOW with one? Maybe through marriages and claims a DOW on Brittany may give France a CB, but not being able to DOW seems to me that the war piece will be pretty complex (as it should be for the time).

But they could "invent" a CB relative often and it could probably be simulated by allowing anyone to freely Dow.

I don't think we should be able to "invent" CBs all the time...;) But it's important that it isn't too difficult either.:) On the other hand, this game isn't primary about war, as I've understood.:) Of course we will have war, but other thing is just as important!

You can always say you have a claim in the throne of France you have not, but for that at least should have a good excuse.

Just what we need a family tree for, eh?:p I guess genalogy(sp?) is something that can be important. And if my king don't have any ancestors from the family needed, who knows if someone can be payed to unlock some.....well.....secrets?:D

That's good... I would really hate to have this included as a hardcoded inability to DoW without CB - even if I have to go to war alone for a ridiculous DoW, the option should still be there.

Exactly. You will not have standing armies, but vassals who may choose to support you or not.

Sure you can DoW someone without a CB, but then you will have only your family to support you.

As I understood it you could DoW freely (just as was done at the time) but to actually take land you need a really good CB.

But for taking some cash or forcing some consessions I'd say that the go-ahead is clear, perhaps added that some vassals might be less supportive if they don't like the war.
