I hate that people that have 100 opinion with me can end up trying to murder me or rise up in a faction against me. What's the point of "opinion", then?
In a different post I wrote that I would love it if opinion in CK3 was structured in tiers like opinion in Stellaris. But the obedience system is also better than what we currently have.
The obedience system, while tailored for nomads because of how much it prioritizes having high dread, dominance etc, is actually pretty cool in that it gives you insight into whether a character is going to act against you or not, and why. It rewards you for building connections (friendships, etc) with your vassals and other important characters.

The ruler-vassal interactions for non nomads should be revamped, and the first step towards it is having a system similar to obedience imo. Beyond that, I would love it if the council had more power (it was pretty cool how in CK2 your council actually could vote on relevant issues, I'd love if we had something like that again) and factions could also use an overhaul.

In general I feel like the new DLC is really high quality in terms of all the new basic concepts it introduced for nomads (and how the UI elements look) and now playing anywhere else lags behind in comparison. Kudos to the devs, of course, but it's about time some core game concepts are revisited with the same care new concepts were introduced, imo.

Besides, won't we need a good loyalty system and factions system for modelling China anyway?

The ai needs to be reworked, whether thats making traits and opinions actually matter by updating every murder and adultery event, or scrapping opinion for everyone getting obdient, or factions being more than just claimants, we need some big rework

The AI's decision making does need a rework, I agree, but the issue I'm talking about is that it's not clear WHY characters do the things they do. The game assigns a personality type for every character based on their traits, but its impact is very obscured.
With obedience you can actually see a number that shows how close a character is to being loyal to you. Obedience, as opposed to personality types, is also represented on the characters' portrait because of how significant it is.

If the AI acts according to its personality and relationship with you, under some kind of hidden formula, then it shouldn't be hidden. Just like obedience it should be visible to us what the AI actually thinks of us rather than having vague "opinion" and "personality types"

I think you can at least make the case for some obfuscation here, too.

I can make the case for removing opinion from the UI and replacing it with an icon that shows a character's attitude towards the player.
A higher game difficulty could be achieved by obfuscating the numbers behind this attitude, and also obfuscating stats like the obfusCKate mod does.
I just really dislike the opinion system.

I think there could be a deeper Opinion system, where characters could like you as a person, but hate you as a Ruler. With some overlap between the two.

It's strange that a terrified vassal may not join schemes. Many tyrants are killed in schemes as their valets also hate them. Even being scared to death/disease sounds more reasonable.
