I did a bunch of reloads and 'restart maps' on a given map to figure out some of the details regarding how breakthroughs are assigned. I'm sure plenty of you have already made these same observations, but I didn't see anyone laying them out specifically, so...

- Once you have started a map, each 'magnifying glass' anomaly seems to have an assigned breakthrough tech that will be available upon surveying that anomaly. No matter how much you reload, you'll still discover that same breakthrough upon surveying that specific anomaly.
- The other side of that coin is that other 'magnifying glass' anomalies around the map have their own breakthrough techs assigned. Which means that you can savescum after figuring out which breakthroughs that can be found through anomalies would be the most useful to you, and survey those first/land near them first (particularly useful in non-flat maps).
- If you hit 'restart map' everything seems to get re-rolled. So if you don't like what you got, just hit that, and cross your fingers.

I have not experimented enough to see if the breakthroughs from the Omega Telescope are similarly pre-assigned when loading the map, but if anyone else has put in the time and effort to figure that out, please feel free to let me know!

And, of course, if anyone has observations that contradict mine, you're a dirty liar and your political, economic, social, and philosophical opinions are an affront to all right-thinking people please feel free to correct me.

EDIT: Also, your starting 'normal' techs (engineering, robotic, social, bio, physics) seem to be static, regardless of whether you reload or restart map.
