You can convert a province if it has <5000 people and you send a colonist there. If you are a non-Pagan country, Pagan provinces always have a +1 revolt risk from religion, which is kind of wimpy. If you are a Pagan nation, you get a *SPECIAL* Pagan religion bar, so your own provinces will stay loyal as you subjugate the European infidels (he he).

Paganism vs Paganism

Does anybody else think that maybe the category is a bit too undifferentiated in some circumstances? I think it does make sense when you play in a predominantly European setting - after all, all Pagans look the same to Christianity. :D But say you play China in the Fantasia campaign and bump into the Mughal Empire, it's somewhat unrealistic that both of you supposedly have the same religion...

Well, the game is originally intended to be played from a European perspective, thus the name obviously. I suppose modelling Buddhism, Shinto etc. was considered to be not really worth the trouble, on balance.

The Moghul Empire should be Muslim, in any case.

Yeah, that's why I said 'paganism' makes sense as a category if you play in a European setting. I just think it would have been neat to have more differentiation if you play non-European settings, but I guess you're right about the coding... :(

It should, but it's Pagan. :)

Revolt risk is affected by several factors, including religion (if you hold the cursor over the revolt risk in the province information window, you will get a dropdown box of these factors). As tolerance for a particular religion increases, the religious revolt factor for provinces of those religions becomes more negative (the exact revolt factor differs across religions). Since you cannot specify tolerance for paganism, the religious factor provides less of a negative effect on revolt risk than for religions that re fully tolerated and so pagan provinces are more revolt-prone. However, at +3 stability, they will never revolt, unless there is war-weariness or a random event.
