Hi there, I have a strange one. For the last couple of years at least, the Paradox Launcher will only show up as a block box over top of steam (see image below), but the buttons on the launcher are still there and clickable, and I know more or less where to click to launch the game. After a couple seconds the launch screen would appear and the Paradox Launcher would disappear. Basically, this has only ever prevented me from figuring out using mods, which I don't super care about. The games themselves have no issues whatsoever.

Earlier this week I tried to start EU4, loaded up the launcher, and clicked where I usually do. Only, this time, nothing ever happened. I tried clicking again, but this time the cursor never changed to show a button underneath it, and the launcher just hung there until I hit stop in steam. I've made sure all my packages are up to date.

I confirmed the same behavior with CK3 and Stellaris. In fact, `ps -e | grep eu4` shows nothing (same for CK3 and Stellaris), but the launcher is still hanging around.

Has anybody seen this behavior before, either with the black screen or not? Are there any log files that would be useful to share?

Are you using nvidia prime render? The following thread in the general forum discusses the black launcher screen and there are a bunch of possible workarounds, but I don't know which of these still work(maybe you can start with the one from the very last comment):

Disclaimer: I'm not working for Paradox. I'm just trying to help people.

@grotaclas you are a saint.

The last comment in that thread did the trick perfectly. It turns out the reason I wasn't able to keep going is that the latest launcher was installed a couple days ago and I needed to accept the terms and conditions again, or similar, which was a box in a different spot that I would never have just found.

Now I can go finish my Better Than Napoleon run.
