patches1.3a and 1.3 make the game not start

Hello,

Well, I finally got the basic version of the game to work (with no patches) after manually uninstalling etc... as others have discussed but when i apply the 1.3a or 1.3 patch the game crashes at the first "initializing globals" point.
The error message says "unknown naval command found" and it mentions battleships and convoys in the error message (i don't remember the exact phrasing). I have yet to try the earlier patches. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

Is it HOI2 or Doomsday?

If it's HOI2, you must complety uninstall HOI2, see this how to do it. Then install it again and apply patch 1.3a.

If its Doomsday you must use the doomsday 1.1 patch. Before installing the patch you must reinstall.

If its Doomsday download version I think its patched to 1.1
 
Well you should not install 1.3 at any rate as it was bugged.
1.3a is the one you want if you only have HOI2, if you have DD then you cannot use that patch and should use the 1.1 DD patch.
