Hi folks,

I've got a scheme to play EU2 PBEM that I need some of you to help me try. The basic idea is that each person gets one day to play 5 years, then they have to hand over the game to the next player. With one player for each day of the week, you will be out of touch with your country for 35 years, praying that none of the other players vassalize you. I lost my long message with more detailed rules and it's too late to rewrite it now, but if you are interested, send me a private message and the day (GMT) you could play, and I'll try to get a game going by this weekend.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Raul the Runt.

Hmmmm, only one taker so far (thanks Wasa). Maybe if I describe the way it will work a bit more. C'mon, it'll be fun!

Each of the seven players is assigned a week.

1. The Sunday player starts a v1.04 grand campaign as any country they wish, setting autosave to every year and missions off.
2. They play for from 1419 to 1420.
3. Before 00:00 GMT on Monday, they email the zipped Jan 1420 save game (350Kb) to all the other players - identifying their country.
4. The Monday player starts a v1.04 grand campaign as any country they wish (except for Sunday's country), setting autosave to every year and missions off.
5. They load the 1420 save game and play for 5 years to Jan 1425.
6. Before 00:00 GMT on Tuesday, they email the zipped Jan 1425 save game to all the other players - identifying their country.
7. Repeat and rinse until 1820. The player with the highest victory points wins.

souds interesting....but 35years without controlling your own forces...hugh...sounds like u better not get jumped by the other players and have the AI doing peacedeals for u! this could get nasty!?

but Im willing to try it out! :)

just struck me!! this also means that its going to be much much more difficult to design your DP settings  ...so now Im really hoping to get to play a country with good events ...and hoping that the AI wont make too many stupid choices for me!

I think the idea is really cool...but...I can't say yes to it since I cannot guarantee that I will be able to finish my 5 years and pass it on in one fixed day each week. If you change the rules to a more fluid timeline it would be better (for me). Something like this maybe?:

1. Each player has 2 days to play up to 5 years.
2. If you don't finish your 5 years at the end of 2 days, you pass the game on anyway.
3. You can pass the game on to the next player earlier if you finish your 5 years.
4. You can pass the game on to the next player if you know you won't have time to play over the next 2 days.

What do you think?

First,
sorry for not getting back to you. After a week with only one interested person (thanks Wasa), I thought this idea had died.

Second,
Thanks for responding, folks. I think 4 will work. I'd love to eventually get games with 5+ players, but perhaps starting small is a better way to refine the rules/guidelines.

Boehm,
I see you are actually thinking about this. Yep, leaving your country to the AI and open to being ravaged by fellow players should prove interesting. I expect we will end up making changes to the rules after some play, but I think losing some control will bring out some new strategies and make for an interesting game.

Wasa,
What's this avatar thing? Is that the coat-of-arms thing? I'll see what I can find in the user cp.

Backpack,
Do you happen to have a 2 or 3 year-old kid? Your name reminds me of a kid's show. I'm flexible, and seeing as you are only the third person to show interest so far I'm a bit desperate too;)
If Boehm and Wasa can go with your idea, then let's do it.

Everyone,
PM me with your prefered email address for playing, and we can start an email thread to get this going by the weekend.

Raul, Wasa, boehm...What countries do you want to play?

AND

Groundrules???? how 'bout we keep it simple...like...no cheating and no reloads

Excellent ground-rules, Backpack. I heartily agree. Start simple and add others as needed.

As far as countries, I think we should choose during our first turn. That way, whoever plays first has the advantage of first choice, but the disadvantage of not knowing where anyone else will be. I'll just roll some dice to figure out the order of play.

Im right here! you can all email me at claus_boehm@hotmail.com ...hmmm, how big a file is a savegame anyway? ("not at home" -thinking that perhaps I should use another account?)

Im really looking forward to this, but I must admit that Im a bit terrified at having to leave it to the AI to make a lot of my choises in all those nice historical events...but I guess that just means that u cant optimize so much which is actually kind of cool! :)

Yeah...this method rules out playing Bohemia, Aragon, Burgundy, or Hungary for me. I'd hate to come back and find out that the AI ended my game by letting itself be annexed....doh!!!

Raul,
Are you playing the first round? What country did you choose?

Not to mention playing France as number 3 after number 1 played England and has already annexed your vassels and reduced u to a 1 province minor.

I'm at work at the moment (obviously working hard) so I can't zip a game and tell you for sure, but if I recall, a zipped save-game is only about 100Kb. No problem for email.

Backpack,
I haven't started a game yet, I was hoping to hear from Wasa again with an email address. Regardless, three is enough to try it out. Let's start on Saturday. If it's just you, me, and boehm, then you can play first (since you are gone for a few days after Sunday). If we get more players by then, I will roll some dice for play positions, again making sure that you are in a slot where you can at least play your first turn.

Boehm,
Thanks for the email address, I'll send you a test email from my play address this evening (US West coast time, that is).

I'm starting to get pumped. Now I just need to figure out who to play.

Raul,

Cool. I'm psyched as well. This will be interesting. Since I'm going first in the batting order, I'll try my hand as Venice...unless one of you guys had your heart set on playing them...:)
