I was just looking around for information on changing colonial dynamism settings manually, and I was wondering if a user friendly menu of the same sort that the changing playable countries menu is would be a feasible addition to IGC 2.2 (if such a thing is in the making with Hartmann gone). It would be a very useful addition, if it is possible without some ungodly amount of work. The colonists.csv file is sort of a confusing mess for most people, and I think it's a change that many people would like to make. (I.E. I want Ethiopia to be able to move farther south along horn of Africa, maybe 1 colonial dynamism or something, etc.)

Or maybe that's just a bad idea and a waste of time. (shrug)

John_keats,

Easy way to do it for now is just to give them a shipyard at some point when you think it is appropriate for your scenario.

Modify the savefile.
just add 'shipyard = yes' to the province that you want to have a shipyard. Probably their capitial. You can also just limit yourself not to use the shipmaking capability, just use it for the colonist.

Indeed, the shipyard is the other option. Good call. I messed around with the colonist.csv file yesterday and have been using Oman with colonial dynamism of 2, and I ran into a bizarre problem, which begs another question from me. As Oman, I wanted to colonize east africa and hopefully get into madagascar and whatnot. At the beginning I can only "see" east africa, and little else. Which was fine, and historical. So I decide "Well, I want to get to southern africa." (the best place to colonize roundabouts) So I figured that I'd begin a war with Portugal, and steal a rudder by beating the bejeezus out of them on the high seas. Since pretty much every time you fight people in Europe, you get their rudders, I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. Bizarrely, however, even though I beat Portuguese fleets 15-20 times (no exaggeration), I still hadn't stolen a rudder. Am I just a victim of the foulest luck in the entire world, or are some countries incapable of stealing rudders?

I haven't played EU1.9 a lot, but I don't seem to steal rutters so much anymore. Changed in the patch???

And the etiopians, what have you been drinking?

I also think it would be nice if we could add colonial dyanism in an easier way.

I have actually been considering adding such a function to the IGCConfig tool. It is doable and I consider it a high priority, but it does require a lot of work. To be honest, I just don't feel motivated right now. Maybe it's my biorythm or something.
