Cheers Savant.
Apart from the political threat and the fact that he owed it a lot of money
Philippe also had a couple of personal reasons for disliking the Templars.
He once applied to join the Order as a postulant, but was rejected.
Also, he once had to seek refuge in the Temple’s preceptory while fleeing a rebellious Paris mob,
and got a very humiliating treatment.

the templars was powerfull, thats an reason to hate them. Lots of BB ;)

One if my favorite Latin phrases was uttered by the

Pope who gave the Templars their charter. He wished them "Omni Datum Optimum" - every best gift.

The Templars are a fascinating group perhaps so much of their history is shrouded in legend and fancy. Of course they were the shrewder of the two major orders in the Levant and were quite the petulant bunch. If only EU 2 was to go back to the 13th century, then if Paradox failed to include them in the game we could all appeal to you to use your great graphic skills to make a shield and flag for them.

Besides this statement that alludes to their plans for a Languedoc center of operations, is there any other evidence that suggests efforts were being made to secure this as a Templar bastion?

www.skullandcrossbones.org

great site, details all known history of the templars from inception to excommunication, as well as linking survivors of the purge to the royal guard of the Bruces of Scotland and of how many surviors turned to piracy under the banner of gol'gotha (the skull and crossbones)

has pretty cool article about how the templars were betrayed by the church on Friday 13th October, 1307 and how that is why many now consider friday the 13th to an unlucky or evil day

No evidence I'm afraid. Only speculations.
The Templars always had good relations with the Cathars. Many wealthy Cathar landowners had donated vast tracts of land to the Order. During the time before the "Albigensian Crusade" there was a major influx of Cathars into the Temple ranks. Actually a significant proportion of the Order's high-ranking dignitaries were from Cathar families. And they did not to appear to have moved about in the world like the Catholic nobles. They remained for the most part in the Languedoc. That created speculations that they were creating for the Order a stable base in the region.
The Templars remained neutral during the "Albigensian Crusade", but they provided haven for many Cathar refuges.

I've already made the shield and flag (and using it in the game.)

Thanks for the link Ullen.
Another note about the Templars in Scotland: At the battle of Killiecrankie in 1689, John Claverhouse, Viscount of Dundee, was killed on the field. When his body was recovered he was found to be wearing the Grand Cross of the Order of the Temple.
(Not a recent device, but one dating from before 1307)
