Special buildings are great, but unfortunately a lot of them have religious requirements. I'd really like an option to still add legacy buildings to those counties as an alternative to the regular building if you can't build/use it for religious reasons. As it stands some counties are just less desirable as they have an unusable special building, and can't receive a legacy building either.

Especially relevant now there's a DLC that adds a bunch of new special buildings. As it stands you might actually be better off without that DLC if you plan to play in certain regions as certain religions.

Just give the specific county/duchy to some one of the "right" faith.
And give them the resources to build it?
What if I want to hold the county myself? It would still be unusable even if somebody else builds it. That's the main issue, I don't want a county with a wasted unusable building slot.

Plus, I don't want vassals of the wrong religion.

Muslims have a lot of really great special buildings. There's a +1 Stweardship per devotion and many similar ones.
The content pack is nice but the bonuses pale in comparison to what's already in the game.

If they don't allow a barony to have more than one special building, then they at least need to allow us to convert them or something. Because it's not just that we can't use it, but it also means we can't place Legendary buildings there either.

Give to vassal of other faith, wait till they build the thing.
Then reclaim the county again. :D

For some of special buildings, the holder of the county must be the correct faith to receive the benefits. Not just for building it.

An easy fix would be to have a religiously neutral variant, similar to how the Hagia Sophia special building has both a Christian and Muslim version.

Ideally, all religious monuments would have variants for Christians, Muslims, Jews, Asatru, Zoroastrians, Tengri, etc. but I understand that could be too much modeling work. At the very least, there should be a historic version and a religious neutral/vague version (just call it Holy House or something) for other faiths not historic to the area. The description and appearance of it could be general enough to fit with any religion.

Some building just aren't of any significance for most faiths.
They're just fancy buildings to them.

Maybe if not the right faith, the piety gain is changed into prestige.
With development growth changed into renown.

Any monetary benefits can remain the same.

I made a submod in EK2 dealing with this problem. Essentially make pluralism to be able to use all religious buildings. It is done by editing special buildings files and religions. It would be similar in vannilla, if using mod.

Like for example the Church where supposed Moses got the Ten Commandments. The county is a jewish holy site but the cloister is only for christians.

They should just have a religiously neutral variant for all of these types of things like the do for Jerusalem. Basically, to represent the new owner converting the church/mosque/temple to their own faith. It doesn't even need a new model, just an alternate set of criteria (and bonuses?).
