Possible Fix for Crash in Vista

I just recently had the problem of crashing when I started the game picked a scenario, then picked a country, then started the game.

You can avoid this crash by alt tabbing before you start game and opening a music file in the Hoi2 directory, then closing and starting game. Not great but it works. Sounds like a sound card issue.

I tried uninstalling the SP1 for Vista, no go.

Tried new video drivers, no go.

The fix I had may or may not work for you. I have the X-FI xtremeMusic card and I updated to the most recent drivers on Creative's website here . It automatically uninstalled the old drivers and installed the new drivers. Now I have no problems with starting HOI2 DD arma.

Try renaming the avi folder to something else(I use avi.old). This should solve your problem.

This is not a video problem. I tried that as a fix but it did nothing. It depends on where HOI2 DD is crashing. In this case it was after the country selection and when you tried to start. It was a sound driver error.
