You get that error usually when you are trying to install the wrong patch. What are the 3 logos on your CD?

Always best to check, lots of internet sites out there.

So you DL'ed the patch from the SF web site?

Had you installed any Mods?

If so I would suggest you completely uninstall the game delete all the folders, and registry entries.

Then install and just use the 1.03b patch.

Hmm...no mods installed or anything like that. I just bought the game, installed it, and then went looking for patches right away. The patch I downloaded was HOI-Patch-103b-NA.exe and it was located at:

http://www.paradoxplaza.com/downloads.asp

I assume the patch can be run from any directory although I did try copying it to the main HOI directory where I installed the game.

The only other thing I can think of to try is to install the game to the default directory and see if that makes any difference.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your help by the way. :D

Try the default directory please.

Eberk, Thanks for posting. For some reason some people find it neccessary to have the game installed to the default directory.

some people

when you say 'some people'...

do you mean designers ??? players ??? because I don't really understand the meaning of your message, Castellon

(sorry about that... they say that you get smarter and wiser when you age.... I guess I still have a long way to go)

thanks

PS: when I get home I'll uninstall HoI and install it in the default directory, hopefully the patch will work....

I mean that a few people have had problems when they did not install the game to the default directory, the majority of people have not had problems with that.

Not a problem.

I also have the same problem with the 1.03b patch (I just wanted to post the same question here)....

No, but you will have to update your Windows registry file. When the game is installed it writes an entry to the registry HKLM>Software>(publisher name)>HOI (or something like that). That entry is always the default location - no matter where you install the game. That's why they suggest installing the game to the default directory. I edited the registry entry to reflect where I installed the game which is C:\Games\HOI . The patch installed without any problems.

(Castellon this was suggest by me in a previous post, but I think that post is gone now.)

Thanks for the helpful info.
BTW I did not delete it or anything, but the sever has problems sometimes.

Default directory

I didn't work....

First I uninstalled HoI.... (then deleted the directory)

And then I installed the game to the default directory (C:\Program Files\StrategyFirst\Hearts of Iron or something, I'm not sure....)

Afterwards I (with high hopes) tried to install the 1.03b patch but..... same problem.....('you have not installed the game etc...etc...)

So I'm back where I started..... anybody any other ideas ???

(please.....please.....)

Did you clear your registry?

Still nothing

This time I uninstalled the game, deleted the directory AND cleared the registry....

After installing (with no problems) on the default directory I tried the patch...

And I still get the message that Hearts of Iron is not installed and I should install if first...

Now I'm starting to get a bit annoyed by this.....

Has anybody got an idea as to what might work.....

How can you see which edition your game is... (English, North American, German, etc...)
The three icons on my CD are from Paradox, Strategy First and Infogrames....

Thanks in advance for any input....

I found the problem

It seems that I used the wrong patch...

I tried the UK_ENG patch but I should have tried the North American patch...

Now don't get me wrong....

But I'm really, really annoyed by this fact....

Why, Oh why do I have to use the North American patch..??? Do I live in North America ??? I don't think so.....

I had the option to chose which patch to download so I took the common English UK one... (because the UK is just accross the north sea fom my country)...

Why can't the North American version just be called the "COMMON" version.... If it is to be used not only in North America but all over the world except for the places where there is a special patch for......

I'm sorry but I'm really annoyed by this....; it'll pass but at this moment I'm very annoyed....

I'm sorry but, to whom it concerns, the world doesn't stop at the borders of North America.....

PS: forgive my rambling, I'm just really annoyed about this.... it cost me more than 3 days, several uninstalls & installs and a double download which takes (with my ancient modem) a very, very long time)
