I'm not sure if this is a bug or a missed design point, but the sequence went as follows:

As William of England I declared war on the King of France while he was in a series of other wars, including a civil war to replace the king. My casus belli was to sieze Vexin for Robert, Duke of Mormandy.

I besieged and took all settlements in Vexin and moved on to besiege Paris.

The King of France changed - whether due to the death of the old one or because the "replace king" war was successful I don't know (sorry).

Instantly, all of the settlements I had already taken (all of Vexin and one settlement in Paris) were reassigned to the new king - I simply lost them all. I guess this may be so that battles for the kingship give a smooth takeover of the realm if the original king dies and the claimant takes over. As a "foreigner" who ends up still at war with France but having to besiege all of the previously held settlements again, however, it's not so convincing!

The death of one of the rulers should end the war, so that's not a bug.

The main point of confusion (in this and some other issues) is that CK2 is designed around dynasties and not around countries. So if you are fighting a dude from one dynasty, and while you are fighting him he is being overthrown, than you should not be fighting the other dude that is replacing him.

I found a problem with two wars to depose the same king. One war was successful and the king was deposed, unfortunately my war continued with the new king. Only options were to continue to fight or take the 100 prestige hit
