I recently had to change computers, and therefore had to install EU2 again. Then the problems started. First I couldn't install it from the CD, which I fixed with help from the Self Help section. With the game finally installed, I started playing, but discovered to my horror that there were almost no sound.

To be more precise, there was no intro-sound, no music and no other sounds (with the exeption of the sound when you click a province, when you get a new leader, and a few more). I tried reinstalling the game a few times, updating various drivers, changed the 'music.ini'-file to
"[Common]
music=D:\MUSIC"
, etc..., but nothing seems to work. As far as I can tell all the sound files are located in their appropriate folder.

This wouldn't be so annoying if I could play any other soundfile on my computer while EU2 is running, but alas, I can not.

Does anybody know how to fix this? Is there possibly something wrong with the 'setup.inx'-file from the "Scandinavian patch installation problem"-section of the Self Help thread?

PS. Do note that I have some sound, so that this can't be a stupid mistake of me forgetting to turn on my speakers.

Not sure how much help we're going to be able to give, there's no known problem like this in EU2 so it's likely something peculiar to your PC. I've not heard of anyone using the setup.inx fix having this problem, in any case it is purely to do with the install process.

What do you mean by this? Usually people can for instance play the mp3 files from EU2 in a standard app while running the game. Are you saying you can't? Why not, what happens?

Well, I couldn't play any other sound file on my computer whil EU2 was running. That is, I could play them, but no sound would come out of the speakers.

Anyways, I fixed the problem by simply buying and installing a new sound card, but I'm still no wiser to what caused the problem in the first place.

Pretty clearly then it was a problem or limitation of your previous sound hardware or drivers. Glad you got past it!
