How is it that a new colony consisting of 752 colonists is able to raise an army of 20,000 troops? Just seems odd is all.

The answer lies in sex, like always. Lots and lots of sex. Those colonists have very large fecundity.

Really, the 752 or whatnot is the population of the 'capital.' The province may have many more people inside. Portugal's armies and navies were HUGE for such a puny nation. They were mostly conscripted natives and mercs.

I knew there HAD to be a reason, and I'm glad it wasn't mundane. :)
