Hello,

In my current game, i conquered France by stealing the title of King of France and defeating the old one.
As a result, something like 4 duchies entered my kingdom. The problem is that the former french king decided that he wanted ALL counts to be his own vassals.
So i have four one-province duchies and a huge number of counties as my vassals.

I would like to attach each county to its own duchy, but i don't know how. Is that even possible?

Thank you :)

No ... not as long as the count title is held by someone else .... sadly.

So it can be a painstakenly process of revoking titles and granting them out again.

The easiest way is to revoke the Duchy title off the previous owner, and then granting it, either to the previous duke or someone else in that area, and then all counties belonging to that area will come under the (new) duke's control.

It will cost you some BB and probably making some vassals angry, so don't try to revoke all 4 at the same time. Revoke one and then wait for the loyalty to recover before revoking the next.

Yes, i was already doing the revoking thing.
That's a pain, but well... ^^

I am quite surprised that nobody made a mod allowing to do that.
I now nothing about CK modding however, maybe that it's not possible.

Thank you anyway

I usually prefer direct count vassals like the AI.

This way:

- prestige gathering is harder, what is good (slows me down a bit)
- all the starting noble families survive the game (dukes will revoke non-family count titles)

Whenever I play Greek, I usually end up doing this several times, particularly when I'm playing as the Byzzies. STOP INTERMARRYING DAMN YOU, I WANT THOSE PRINCIPALITIES TO REMAIN WHOLE AND UNTOUCHED.

If you don't consider it cheating, you can change the county's liege in the save file. As far as I know this has no side effects.

Otherwise, what Tempest suggested.

Do any save-game editors allow you to do this? Would be easier than editing manually methinks.

Too bad there indeed, is no "transfer vassalage" action available for direct count vassals (which would give you a view of which duke to make the county a vassal of). Does anyone have any insight on whether it would be historical to transfer vassalage though? If a county formally joined a kingdom, would they automatically be considered part of their natural duchy?

IRL Kings tended to resist (rather than encourage) their minor direct vassals becoming instead the vassals of major nobles. The main reason was that it created overly-strong vassals who could more easily split away/ignore the king or challenge the king.

Whereas in-game, you might want to do so as the player, but your nobles resist it.

Either you take loyalty hits revoking titles and re-granting them, or BB from taking titles by force and then redistributing them, which affects your vassals' loyalty.

Second option of declaring war on your vassals (which costs prestige unless you already have claims) will also make your other vassals pretty unhappy, so I would only use this as a last resort ... if the duke vassals simply REFUSE to give up their titles.
