Interested, and I understand your point about secret threads, but...

If you look at some active games here you can see that they reach 100 pages in 3 weeks, that's over 5 pages per day.

this isn't true, unless you count werewolf, which is a completely type of game than what you're planning. Games similar to what you're planning are lucky to be at 20 pages after three weeks, all of which have IRC channels for most planning. Since the adoption of IRC only 3 games have gone at least 100 pages, with all of them taking months to get that far, and the next closest got to page 97 after 4 months. Many complex games have been run here with just one one thread here, without overwhelming players. Using multiple forums will confuse and dissuade some players.

Thanks for your thoughts and good to know that IRC has worked well in previous games, so I most certainly will be looking into using this.

What about a game more like BlackBishop's recent Lost World, but set in space? After all, everybody wants to be the captain of their very own Firefly. ;)

What about a captain of a Navy issue exploration ship instead or admiral of the fleet outlining the overall exploration strategy bickering over budget and industrial priorities with other cabinet members?

I hope that I can make exploration and colonization be a big part of the game. This is one of my current biggest inspirations: http://www.erikwernquist.com/wanderers/

Unless you're doing a game like the IAARs in the Victoria 2 Forum, where you've got ~30 people crammed into one thread, of whom about a third are active and making contributions every day and reach 100 pages before you've even gotten past the 5th update, we're looking at about 20-40 pages over it's whole lifetime. Drawing that out over multiple threads or subforums just makes it feel less active.

With proper indexing and use of IRC the Paradox forum is perfectly acceptable to use. Just look at games like Edge of Europe or Federation of Equals, those were very complex games that had very long lifespans using the resources on the forum and in IRC.

That said, I'd still play it regardless.
