Hello,
I have noticed something while playing EIC that I think deserves mentioning. The game used to crash on me whenever I attempted to 'save over' an existing save. I now think this is due to the fact that I attempted to combine two fleets in a port and then saved, which is a problem being tracked on another thread. At least, I hope this is the reason behind the crash and we, the loyal EIC community, are waiting on a Bug Fix on this one.
Either way, while trying to troubleshoot the crash problem I made an attempt to solve the problem by deleting old save game files in my EIC directory in the documents section of my 'personal user area' within Windows Vista. The .eic files were sequentially numbered and everything appeared okay.
When I restarted the game and went into the startup menu, the game also seemed aware that these saves were no longer there (i.e. - they were not in the list of available saves). However, from within the game itself (after loading the one save which I did not delete), when I went to save, the game displayed the list of saves as if they were in fact still there, even though they weren't(???). It also prompted me to be sure if I wanted to overwrite a save as if such a saved file existed.
Is this a bug? Could this have something to do with some of the save related crashes?
