When playing HOI2 my screen will flicker every 10 seconds or so. This only happens with HOI2. I updated my drivers before installing the game, but what can I do about this flicker? My refresh rate is 60 MHz. Would changing that help?

You probably have programs running in the background. Stuff like MSN Messenger or MusicMatch.
Each time those background processes do their stuff, they pull the focus away from the game and onto their own windows. Windows responds to that by briefly switching to the desktop (similar to when you hit <alt><tab> or <ctrl><esc>) for the duration. You will perceive that as flicker.
Music match is the most popular cause lately, but a whole host of things can cause problems.
Basically when running a game it is best to have nothing else running in the background.

THe first thing is to start shutting down programs that are running in the background.
Such as the mentioned Music Match and virus checkers, messaging programs ... until you figure out what is causing the conflict.

Solved it, based on this thread. Disabling the broadband connection while playing solves the problem. I have just rechecked it ending the MIM process and that cures it with out disabling broadband. Thx this has been annoying me for weeks.
Well, some of us still get it. Takes me 5-6 tries to get HOI2 (latest version) to load correctly, usually 2-3 have horrible screen flicker, 1 CTD and 1 lockup at the very beginning; and then eventually it loads without a problem.
No other programs running, cold boot.
Win98SE, latest patches, 512MB,
GeForce4 video, latest drivers.
On board Soundblaster compatible sound.
All other games and programs run fine; including City of Heroes, etc.
Let me get this straight you load the game, it flickers, you exit and relaod the game and it does not?
Very strange, that kind of behaviour has never been reported before.
Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.
