My screen flickers when I play every three seconds or so when the game is loading the picture only flickers on the top part of the picture. I have no problems of this on any other game I play. I have a XPS 400 (Default). This really gets annoying and gives more than the usuall game headache so I would like to know how to fix it.

Plz :)

You are running somethng in the background that is trying to steal focus from the game.
Most likely culprits are Music Match, if you have every installed that program it leaves a little part of itself running, go to process tab and and look for MM.exe.
If it is there then end it and you should be fine.

If it is not Music Match then other culprits include Virus protection, and some auto updaters.

Try it the worst that happens is you have to reboot your system.

Do you use Yahoo messanger or MSN messanger? Those tend to steal focus when someone comes online.

There should be no flicker, try that I can tell you that I have no MMdiag running in my processes.

I have the same exact flicker problem. I'll do the check on music match but i don't even think i have that program.

If one doesn't have music match and doesn't have a virus program are there any other suggestions?

Check for that one first, it even come preinstalled on some systems.

Great ,that must be their new one.

Thank You

My problem is finally solved. Yes I have Music Match and I disabled it per your instructions. The screen flicker is gone.

The other things like renaming AVI_back, etc. never worked.

This just proves that we must be patient. I understand how difficult your job is diagnosing PC's because there are numerous configurations. Whereas, a console such as the Xbox, is much simpler.

Thanks again...

Can you please point me to your thread where I told you to rename the AVI folder to stop your screen flashing?
I have known about the Music Match conflict since long before you registered on these forums, so I don't know why I would have told you to rename the AVI folder for a screen flashing problem. I would like to investigate this so I can improve service in the future.

You are doing a fine job. I actually had referred to the forums for the screen flicker issue in Feb 2005. Another member had asked about the issue and I referred to the answer to their question to try to address the issue on my own. I was using a different username at that time, so that is why you thought that this answer was available before I joined the forums. But I actually joined the forums when HOI II came out, under the old username.

I was just revisiting the fun of HOI II while waiting for Doomsday to come out. Hey, only a week to go! Got it preordered.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Again, you are doing an excellent job and I will let your boss know here you should get an excellent performance review and a raise to boot...
