Have upgraded to a new computer, and EU2 runs even better than ever. However, occainsionally the screen will flicker. Specs are:

AMD Athon 3000
WinXP Pro
200Gb hard drive
1Gb RAM
G-Force MX4000 128mb DDR graphics card
32bit colour in WinXP
75mhz refresh rate
1024x768 resolution in XP and EU2

I get this too and I've found it to depend on things running in the background usually, like keeping iTunes or another music player maximised in the back makes it happen, while minimising it reduces the risk.

I've always wondered what was causing this..

Turn off everything in the background that may conflict with EU2.
Like Virus protection, ICQ/Messanger, E-mail ...

I only get it when I start up Eu2 (the main screen where it says "inisializing sounds" ..ect I posted about this over half a year ago, and no one was suffering the same problem as I. But you know overtime you get used to things

It is almost always caused by something running in the background.
Less often by a combination of refresh rate, resolution and driver.

I have the problem now. Even if I turn everything off, it's still there. What's more, the only thing that I have changed in regards to my computer recently is that I downloaded the Beta Patch. It has never happened before this. :(

Try uninstalling, and doing a fresh install, then patch to 1.07 and see if the problem is there, that will tell us if it is in fact related to the beta.

Did you already upgrade your XP, especially Messenger? The version being shipped with the XP package causes all sorts of problems because it is automatically loaded when XP starts, and even if you kill the process it is launched again with seemingly no logical reason (like starting Outlook Express). The new version available from Windows update-pages can be prevented from launching this way.

Another cause to non-obvious flickering (the obvious parts being anti-virus programs etc) is the Windows XP update-mechanisms. Again, if you haven't gone through the option fields for the Windows Updater, it will launch at every possible unpleasent situation (like when playing EU2).

If you play EU2 MP (like I know PJL does) the situation gets worse, because all those automatic processes of Windows will most likely crash the game at some point :(

Ahh!,
Auto updates, another one to add to my turn off list. ;)
