To spice up my game I chose Semisalic Consanguinity in my current game. (All my other games I had Salic Consinguality).

I thought that bloodline women could inherit although a husband would become ruler. But it seems unlikely? I now see a son of one of my daughters in the inheritance line. He hasn't got the bloodline mark since he's the son of a female bloodline. So what will happen if he's the only inheritance left and my king dies? Will he become king and suddenly get the bloodline mark? If not the game will end I guess? But if that is the case why have Semisalic Consanguinity as an option (it will end your game anyway?).

Semisalic in CK terms means that females dynasts are barred from inheriting, but all male descendants can inherit. Its a funny inheritance law, one which I'm not sure was ever employed on a widescale base. However, if he does inherit, two things will happen. One, if you have a blood relative in the line of succession, then once your King dies, you will switch to him and all his titles while the kid inherits yours. The other, is that if you don't have a blood relative (and I mean someone that has your name) then its game over.

Ok so basically since this guy is the son of one of my daugthers having him inherit my king title would end the game or force me over to another title holding male bloodline marked char?

Then I might as well stay with Salic Consanguinity in future games. I won't change in my current game since this non bloodline guy is quite far down the line and changing laws seems to upset all vassals greatly.

Yes :) ... if a person outside your dynasty inherits your titles, then you lose those. Salic is the most secure inheritance law, as your titles will never go outside your family.

Basically. And every time you change the inheritance law, I am pretty sure that everyone in the line of inheritance takes a 50% hit in their loyalty, but I'm sure Veld will come along with a better estimate than me.

One word: Assassination

Salic is fine for your ruler's title. Yet your vassals might have other rules. I've lost some provinces because some were in semi-salic rule...

All your vassals get a 50% loyalty hit, not just the ones in your line of inheritance

Also the top 3 heirs, get a claim on the title when you change the law

So if you play as the duchess of Tuscany, your bloodline is doomed? No matter what law you choose, there's no way to have a male heir with the mother's surname, correct?

No, if there is no heir listed then the game will create a new ruler, once the current ruler dies.

So in the case of the duchess, all you have to do is not marry. Then when she dies, a new ruler will appear (a so-called 'country cousin'), he will share the dynastie-name of the duchess. But other then that he will not be related to her.

Thanks, that's good to know. I always thought it was bizarre that the game let you play as someone in such a good position, papal controller and all, for only the one generation.

What happens if you marry but only have female children? Or if you kill off any male heirs?

Ok, I just checked; oddly enough, the only way to kill your dynasty is to produce a male heir with another surname. So as long as you kill off any baby boys, you'll get one of these random "country cousins" inheriting. The random characters' stats are atrocious, though.

Only males can inherit, so the country cousin should still pop up. Haven't tested this, though.

With a Female ruler, you could also hope for her to produce a 'Bastard' son. I would imagine the same traits that make it more likely for a male Ruler, would work for her.

For real nastyness, you could of course take semisalic, but be sure to marry all your daughters to distant relatives with your surname (and hence, bloodline). This little feat of inbreeding will mean that all your grandsons, whether through daughters or sons, will have the same surname.
