has anybody of you - veteran mp players - ever experienced something like a host lag? I didn´t ever "lag" when hosting (I think you can´t lag as host), however the host in my todays game said he was 12 days behind! can that be? have you ever seen this?

I've seen many players fall behind (usually less than 12 days though) but I have never seen the host fall behind. Then again, with HoI and Val-net, nothing surprises me anymore.

I've never experienced this hosting myself.

However... Playing MP the other night, my host said he had lag... Perhaps it was the same guy? ;)

I should add however that he was a total newbie, and I (perhaps unfairly) discounted what he said & assumed he just wasn't conversant with the game.

Is it even theoretically possible for the host to lag?

just my thought...

I have never heard of a lagging host before, and in previous patches I think it was impossible. However, they made a lot of changes to the network and transfer code since 1.04 I think, maybe they changed something.

I have however seen situations where when someone loaded a new scenario, their date was different than the host's date. For example, I got into a '36 scenario and my date was 0700 Jan 1. I never was behind or ahead as much as 12 days though.

what can happen is that Russia can "jump" forward several days on the clock but "not really" - the time unsinks. This is very rare and usually when the Russian player is 56k or DSL. Haven't seen it since 1.03b though.

But, as Big noted, maybe the new transfer protocols make this possible (?)

Dont know if it was a host lag, but I played a few times with someone in MD hosting and for some reason when the game would start he could host for awhile then he would keep crashing. in conversation in the que he kept saying he was posting via tab in the game and we couldnt see his messages, that he was pausing and it wouldnt pause.

Not quite lag but we all chaulked it up to a busy server in his area, as I recall he lived in a fairly metropolitian area, I think Baltimore.
