Shipbuilding in Privateer.

I'm sure that there is a really simple answer, but I am unable to find a Port that will build me a ship,even though I have plenty of money for the Job.Yes,the Pirate bay is simple, I just cant do it in Privateer.other than that,"directors" and "Privateer" are pretty good.

You require a certain standing to build ships.

Favourable standing allows you to build tradeships while friendly standing gives you access to trade- and warships.

Why build them when you can simply capture. The repair cost can be minimal if you get lucky. The only issue may be that you do not get to pick the names and it may eventually make some one mad at you.

Yep,Just figured out the standing situation. Just be sure that if you accept a mission to increase standing,then don't prance off and have a shower like I did,and ran out of time.
Capturing? Seems like a good way to get a bloody nose, but I take your suggestion.:wacko:

I use the predator pragma. Attack the weakest player. They will be in less of a situation to retaliate. Also you have to be very careful what you attack in the early game unless you get lucky enough to start with a highly rated captain. I have also found you need to take multiple fleets away from a specific adversary before they get angry. Or it may be a time issue. For the first couple years none of the companies got angry with me taking their ships and cargo's.
