If you experience frequent game crashes during saving (as I did) which lead to corrupted savefile here is is my advice:
Disable DMA for all your hard drives (disable checkbox in Control Panel / System Settings / Devices / Drives).
This greatly improved stability of game on my system (VIA chipset)!
