So this is a problem that I've had with the game for ages, but it's become much worse since I started playing again.

Basically, sound effect volume varies from normal, to very quiet, to inaudible. Important notification sound effects, clicking on a province, clicking buttons, clicking on an army, moving an army... the list goes on. The sound effects come and go at random. The only thing that keeps up is the music.

Clicking on a portrait seems to briefly return things to normal, but this soon ends.

It's really kinda annoying, and can be quite disadvantageous when it causes you to miss an important notification because the sound effect isn't there.

It can't be a prevalent problem because I've found very little discussion of this issue. It's mentioned here at there, but these threads receive few replies and no explanation or solution is offered, example: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/6kv98l/sound_bug/ and https://steamcommunity.com/app/203770/discussions/0/1368380934283045174/

Any ideas or similar experiences?

Go to Game Options - Audio tab - Unselect "Dynamic Ambient Sounds".

That's the only time i experienced anything like that, i mean with that option on.
That's why i had it on the last time....shortly after it got introduced, but tried again just now to test.
It wasn't even optional at first.
