I've played HOI2 for a year with no audio problems. However, my motherboard recently crapped out and had to be replaced with a WinFast 760GXK8MC board. According to what I can gather, the board has an Analog Devices SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio soundcard on-board. I'm also running an AMD 3400+ with 1GB RAM.

The new problem is, I'll hear a sound (like the upgrade sound, or the popup message sound, or the trade deal sound, or the unit built sound, or the tech discovered sound, etc.) fine if they happen one at a time. However, as soon as I have two sounds occur simlutaneously (like when I upgrade 3 infantry divisions or I'm offered 2 trade deals), then the sound isn't heard and won't be heard again until I save and reboot.

I know that sound isn't a really big deal in a strategt game like HOI2, but I miss my upgrade clanks! :( Please help!

See if there is an updated driver for your sound or MB.

Nope, that's not it. According to the manufacturers, I've got the latest drivers.
Any other ideas? (And please don't say 'Buy a new MB')

Did drivers for it come on a seperate CD or are you using built in windows drivers?

The drivers came on a separate CD with the MB. I went to the manufacturer and downloaded the driver they have listed, but as I was going to install it, the install program said that I already had a more current version of the program installed.

Funny that they would have a more current version on a distibution CD but not their website.

Okay lets try turning down the acceleration.
Go to DXdiag and the sound tab.
There should be a slider that you can set for the acceleration.
Play with different positions and see if any help.
