starting out

hi

i just got the game and my first problem is the tutorial. i can build armies and move them around and thats about it when i played about an hour then a whole load of messege windows all opened up at once which even confused me further. so any help with the tutorial or on even getting started would be greatly appreciated.i dont even know where the tutorial is supposed to end.

Hi there,

first and foremost you should read the excellent FAQs by Oranje and Huszics.

For the tutorial, use your pause button when you get messages so you can read them at your leisure and know what is asked of you. The tutorial, although it doesn't let you save the game, is fairly well made and will walk you through a 'normal' begining.

In order to advance to the next stage of the tutorial, you have to complete actions (i.e. raise army, establish a new colony, etc.). These actions can take several months, even years (game time) to complete. In that time, the tutorial will basically leave you alone. But do not fear, it will get back to you has soon as you finish a 'stage'.

If you want to learn how to play the game, it's probably best just to skip the tutorial and start a Grand Campaign as Russia.

Personally I got stuck on the tutorial, said build colonies, so I did, I colonized everything around me that I could, including the provinces across the water to the east, but the tutorial just sat there with the arrow pointing to the colonize button. I finally gave up with the tutorial and moved onto a GC as russia and feel im learning at a quicker pace.

What i would like to see is for them to put out a tutorial that I dont actually play but instead watch as the 'programmers' play, kinda of a movie but with interaction of popup messages telling me what the programmer is doing to cause an action or get a result. That would be a great tutorial...

I have seen this kind of tutorial in some older games, and a few newer games, of course those games are not nearly as complex as EU is.
