Bought this off of steam. The patch is at v 1.00 and I tried to patch it but it did not work. How can I patch this game?

Which patch did you apply

The 1.2 All inclusive one ... or 1.3 Beta?

If 1.3 Beta i do not think it is compatible with the Steam version.

I also need to know what patch to apply, and where it can be found, for the HOI2 Complete Pack from Steam (contains HOI2, DD, Armageddon).

NOTE: the patch links in the stickies no longer work mostly.

I attempted to use the HOI1.3 and 1.2 patches to no avail, as well as the 1.2 DD+Armageddon patch I found. None seem to work properly.

Or because this is the Steam version must we wait until Steam updates it beyond 1.0?
If so I think that they don't have a patch on Steam auto-update already means they are waiting for one to be submitted to them by Paradox. That's the way Steam patches work. The company is required to provide Steam a patch quickly (depending on contract but usually within x hours of the retail patch) and then that patch is incorporated in Steam's auto-update.

The problem is I hope Paradox realizes that they have to give the patches to Valve so that they can be distributed through Steam....

...because the usual way of installing patches doesn't work with Steam. Steam has to patch the game....

Still no fix?

I just bought this off of Steam. Still can't patch it...same problem as the post here and on the Steam forum.

My MAIN frustration is that I can't figure out how to change the resolution. I mean there HAS to be a way. No company would be dumb enough to release a game stuck in one resolution. If they were...the patches surely address this issue...right?

Well, like you, I bought the game via steam a few days ago.. Its one I'd heard about but never bought (although as I've found out its the same engine I've played via a number of games)..

Anyway, I tried a res changer util I found somewhere for HoI2, but the instructions were more than I could deal with at the time. Google around, you'll find it.

As far as the patch goes, I refuse to take no for an answer. So I unpacked the HoI2 1.3A install and extracted the files. Then I downloaded the 1.3B update and laid those files over the top of the 1.3A files. Then copied the whole lot into my \Steam\steamapps\common\hearts of iron 2 complete pack directory and fired it up. Lo and behold, it identifies itself as v1.3A (the 1.3B patch seems to be entirely data). Works like a charm! Haven't found a decent/working link for the Doomsday scenarios, so this leaves that nutty Doomsday directory untouched..

Download my HoI2 Total patch here (I'll leave the file up there until my ISP complains so get it while you can)

I've bought this game though steam last week and was just now able to simply download patch 1.2 for armageddon and install it fine, it found the game in the steam apps folder and now even starts the game without loading steam when I directly open the .exe file :) No problems here!

Edit: found the 1.2 patch on gamershell.com

I have the same problem ... WTF , I bought it from Steam two days ago ... what are They thinking ? , Why They can't give an answer to his customers ? ...

If I want a game with no support the last thing that I do is pay for it ...

Gentlemen,

This is purely a Steam issue. You should be hounding them not Paradox.

And yes Paradox provided the correct programs/files for steam for the Complete package. It is Steam that is messing up.

You will find that Paradox's history of patching and customer support is far above everyone else in the industry. I should know... well just look at my signature.

Well , in your first post you did not mention that you send to steam hthe correct patches . With that info we should open a ticket to steam support asking They for the patch and wait to see what they say .

Sorry. Just to be clear...
Does that mean:

1. Steam version is the most current version, thus even though it says 1.0 it's not.

OR

2. Steam got not only the complete package but patches up to 1.3A/B. But failed to implement the patches.

If it's the latter do you think your company could maybe nag them a bit?
My support ticket holds far less weight than a publisher who asks them what the delay is... I mean I get their customer service drones whereas you can presumably directly speak to the people responsible for implementing the patches you sent.

Plus there are similar issues with EU: Rome not being up to date on Steam as well and again if you gave them patches they're far more likely to respond to the publisher than the consumer.

for the record, Paradox is not "your" company for either Coreymas or myself.

Steam got the complete package (as far as we've been told, and I tend to put my trust in paradoxians telling me so rather than steam telling me they don't have it (implicitly)) but has to date failed to implement it.

..And as far as I've been told, Paradox isn't having much more success in their communications with steam than you as a customer are.

I can confirm this. Just drag the patch installer into your steamapps/common folder (or wherever the pack is located) and the installer will find the game and be able to patch it.

So sad ... Valve is going really mad ... Today They have added Take Command , but I think that I'm not going to buy it if They don't fix those update problems .
I have enough outdated games on my steam account , not only HOI2 , and I don't want to add another useless game .
This is the response that Steam support give me a few moments ago about this problem :

Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Patches for third party games can only be distributed through Steam once the following two actions have occured:

(1) The Publisher has provided us with the necessary files
(2) The Publisher has given us permission to release the update

The latest patches will be released as soon as possible.

If you have questions about the availability of a specific patch, please contact the support department for the game in question.

Your patience is appreciated, please let us know if you have any other questions.

This is some very important information ...

ForzaA perhaps a temporary sticky for this info?

Is there any update on this? You say they have the data, but won't talk to you. Steam says they have no idea what you are talking about. I'll admit being stung by this purchase, but I just want someone to own up and DO something. And if you can do that then just tell us we bought a bum game and ask us to kindly go find another dev/publisher combination upon which to burn our cash.
