Description
I can get Small Amoeba Weapon for free without researching it

Game Version
Dick v 3.0.4 (67e7)

What version do you use?
Steam

What expansions do you have installed?
Synthetic Dawn, Utopia, Leviathans Story Pack, Apocalypse, Megacorp, Distant Stars, Ancient Relics, Federations

Do you have mods enabled?
Yes

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Hi, I'm playing with ironman enabled, with mods such as outliner or another graphical stuff. I found a bug, that allows to set Small Amoeba Weapon on corvettes without researching or getting somehow from battles this tech. I didn't intend to recreate or test this bug, it just appeared in 2-3 of my games and i decided to inform you. On my screenshots you can clearly see, that this tech is in my tech pool, but i haven't researched it yet. I collected this progress on tech after the battle with Amoebas. I have admitted, that this happens only if you met the event, which gives you Blue Lasers technology (don't remember the name of the event).
PS. Eng is not my native language, did my best to explain the bug)

Steps to reproduce the issue.
1. After start of the game, take off guns from your main ship set for corvette and save this ship set.
2. Found/trigger the anomaly/event which gives you Blue Lasers Technology and successfully complete it.
3. Go back to your empty ship set and press auto-complete ship.
4. After that your set is completed with blue lasers and small amoeba weapon.
(Important, this bug appears even if you haven't fought amoebas and even if you have no such tech in your pool for research)

If you try to outfit the ship yourself rather than auto-completing, do you have the option to select the amoeba weapon? If not, then the bug looks specific to auto-complete. That's a damn good catch.

No, i don't have an option with amoeba weapon as you can see on screenshot, it works only with auto-complete + I faced this only after event with Blue Lasers as reward, but i don't know, does it work if i research that laser with myself

Befriending the amobeas also gives the tech option. And sometimes the AI empires manages to get the tech, so you also have the chance to get the tech from debris, after you destroyed some of their ships.

Yes, i earned a few points for this tech after battle, but not enough to finish the research as you can see on screenshot.

Yeah, but the point is that the OP was able to put that weapon on the ship before the research was completed, and only via auto-completing the ship design, which indicates the bug is very specific to that function.

A similar bug was reported on Steam but with a custom design and no blue laser technology.
It's hard to tell what happens on the linked video, but it looks like the designer not only auto-completes a design with 0 power left and an empty S-slot, but also automatically "switches" from a design with 0 power left to a new set of weapons, using the small amoeba weapon in both cases. There are certainly other conditions, however, if not the bug would be more common.

Perhaps it could be worth a test where Small Amoeba Weapon is given a +1 power usage.

Yeah, mine bug is triggered when i finish the event with Blue Lasers as a reward. I've tested it several times in separate games and bug always appearing.

And lol, topic was created in 2019 and still no response, I am sure, if I ever receive answer from QA, the response will be "Working as designed"(it's not critical so we won't fix it)

I've also encountered this a couple years later and thought I'd add some info that wasn't included in the rest of the thread:

- My going theory is that this happens when the game attempts to auto-complete a ship that doesn't have enough power remaining to fill all weapon slots, Eg. because the player has manually filled all the defensive slots, which would be where the algorithm usually saves power by filling with armour. Since the Small Amoeba Weapon has no power requirement, it's the only component the game can legally use. Why there's no rule to prevent this from happening, I don't know. Just an oversight I guess.

No screenshots provided because I can't be bothered lol. But have tested this - the slot only gets filled with the Amoeba component when I manually fill the defensive slots with shields and bring the available power down to +20. The game fills the first two slots with an Energy Siphon (10 Power) and a Small Blue Laser (7 Power), leaving only +3 remaining, too low for any normal weapon.

Not sure why the game insists on using an Energy Siphon when Blue Laser x2 and Mass Driver x1 would = 19 power, a legal setup. Starting to think the auto-complete code might be due for a workover lmao, but then again it doesn't seem like a game-breaking priority.
