I am new to playing CK (although I know basics since I read many an AAR) but I've run into a problems.

Let me tell you about my current family (in game I mean). I have two sons (well three I think, but third is a cryboy who bitches most of the time about wanting to be the Bishop, and the only reason I'm putting up with him is his sons who are good, and that he is bedding my Steward with awesome stats) (oh and there was that hunchback kid, but who cares)). One is my first son, who is a lazy ass who never listens to me:

Here shown with his stupid blue mustache. Shave that off!!!

The other is pure AWESOME. I even like my grandchildren he made for me more than Marko's ones. Here he is shown shining with AWESOME.

And here is me. And you can see the family resemblance. But all is not well in Kingdom of Serbia. Look down to see who is going to inherit all this.

NOOOOOOOO

And that mustached a$$ho** is going to inherit all this despite the laws which say the child with more provinces AND better Martial should inherit.

So I ask you what went wrong. Petar was my heir until I become the King, and now suddenly couple of years later, it's Marko.

Also. is it normal for Turks to take Asia Minor in only couple of decades (30-50yrs).

The guy who controls the most provinces it the more powerfull, this includes the provinces of his vassals.

Marko has 4 vassals and 3 demesne-provinces = 7 provinces

Petar has 1 vassal and 5 demesne-provinces = 6 provinces

Several tooltips regarding laws etc. aren't always correct, since things have changed when they were written or the feature it describes never made it into the game.

When they are equal, then the martial score is taken into account. It also only looks at the base-martial score so the one before traits.

EDIT
Marko also has a higher intrigue-score, which is much more important then martial score. Since the higher your intrigue the more provinces you can control. So you are better of with him actually.

Unfortunately, the Turks seem to be waaaay overpowered. In my limited experience, for exaample in my AAR game, they've usually taken just about all of Asia Minor, and are working their way across Thrace and Macedonia by 1100.

Then again, in my Aquitaine game, I'm into the 1130's and they've barely dented the empire...

The problem is, it seems in my game they went advanced just a bit too quickly. This is a screenshot from 1081, 15 years into the game:

WOW. Yeah. Asia Minor is mostly theirs, and they own Constantinople. That in turn helped me since it placed new capital of Roman Empire in Tesaloniki, within my grasp, so Emperor was much more easier to negotiate one I hold his capital.
But in the last war, he only went for peace once I cheated, and gave a province I was fighting for, to one of my people, conquered his capital and most of his demesne in Russia (yeah, Emperor was a Russian at that time. Crazy elective law). And even then I got peace only barely. So now I'm going to leave Byzantians to cool for a while (hopefully they don't back stab me) and reintroduce myself to my western neighbors, the Croats.

Part of the Turk turbo-conquest has to do with how the Byz and Turk start at war in the scenario: all vassals are at war as well, so the Turk can just steamroll them with his troops before Byz has a chance to respond.
If the war starts naturally instead, conquest is more gradual and usually more plausible.

Also I think part ofthe problem was that Turks landed in Constantinople early on with a huge army, so Emperor spent most of his time in a meat grinder of Siege of Constantinople.

One major problem in the 1066 scenario for Byz, is the total incompetence of their first two rulers. Which means that they will often spend more time on quelling rebellions than actually stopping the Turks.

But if the Ducas' are quickly disposed of, then the empire stands a chance against the turks without losing all of Asia minor and half the balkans.

Not a problem anymore. Switched completly to elective law. Amy bum with skill can be the Emperor.

The Empire starts with Elective Law. Constantine X is 67 years old when the game starts, but the kicker is that his son Michael (the historical Michael VII) is the first heir under the elective law. Since Constantine never lasts past March 1067, you are almost guarenteed at least 10 years of Michael freakin' Doukas

I just wanted to say a tip of the hat to you 4th dimension, even though this post was a decent size the magnificent use of paint and the commentary made it enjoyable. May-hap we will see an AAR in the future making use of these impressive skills?

p.s. I laughed rather loudly when I saw the large 'NOOOOOO' over the succession screenshot all I could think of was Stephen Colbert saying it for whatever reason.

I might, just to display my impressive incompetence and lack of understanding of how CK works. But such an AAR would be filled with reloading and occasional cheating.

Also as an aside, the Marko from above is still alive, and is still a major pain, being my most disloyal vasal. Even tough he is something like 65 years old, he is this close from throwing my country into a civil war. A$$ho13

Oh and it's not Paint. It's Photoshop. I know, using it for things like this it's like using a TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) to carve a ditch in your back yard.
