Can anybody recommend interesting books written about the CK era? I am currently reading a fascinating history of the Knights Templar but so far have not been able to find a more general history of the period.

A good reading list will pass the time waiting for the game's release...

If you "wasted" money you should maybe post your own reviews? ;) :D

Thanks for the link. I'll surely look closer into it :)

Good idea Håvard. And have the rest of the forum read this

http://www.deremilitari.org/mcglynn.htm

article while you're at it. It'd clear up a few silly notions.

Deremilitari isn't perfect but frequently has interesting stuff.

Are there one or two books that you would recommend as an overview of the period and region?

I just want to let you know that I am the website editor for De Re Militari: The Society for Medieval Military History (www.deremilitari.org) and I would like to thank you for pointing out our website. The reviews you noted earlier in this thread come from three sources:
The first twenty or so are ones written by members of our society. In all cases, these are done by professors or PhD students.
The second section of reviews are those from TMR: The Medieval Review, which is also online.
The third section of reviews come from various sources, such findarticles.com. They republish online some high quality journals, like English Historical Review.

We hope to have some more reviews soon, although getting a person to finish a review can try one's patience. I know that two upcoming reviews: Viking: Weapons and Warfare by Kim Sidorn, and Harold and William: The Battle for England, A.D. 1064-1066, by Benton Rain Patterson, will be highly critical of them (the reviewer for Sidorn's book told me that she can't think of anything good to say about it).

I noticed that Endre Fodstad wrote "Deremilitari isn't perfect but frequently has interesting stuff. " I was just interested in where you think we could improve? (It is hard to find critical feedback to see where one can do better.)
