Game freezes my computer

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
After running for a few minutes, my computer freezes entirely and becomes unresponsive. It also produces a loud ringing noise. I have to hard shut down my pressing the power button.
I tried disabling, uninstalling, and reinstalling my audio driver. Either this or using a headset solved the ringing, but the game still freezes. I similarly reinstalled my video driver to no avail. I cannot produce an error log, since my computer is frozen.
I have had this issue with other games. My laptop runs most games, including graphically and computationally intensive games, just fine. Tropico ran fine as well. Games that have caused it to freeze up like this are visual novels using Ren'Py, and Armello. I have no idea as to the common thread here.
