Ok,

My understanding is that tech advance order is: Latin, Orthodox, Muslim, exotic. Assuming this is true has anyone done any research on how much harder(/more expensive) say...muslim is vs Latin or orthodox?

Thanks,

I think Husziks FAQ might have something on this (or the beta FAQ). Possibly the Real EU threads, too.

After digging through alot of junk this was the only thing I could have (from Huszic's site), but basically the answer is...we dont know for sure because this was made from modifying .sav files.

After spending way too much time, this was the only remotely useful thing I could even find.

Ah well...

I can imagine a controlled test where a given country at given tech levels has the various tech groups patched in to see what costs, etc. are over the next few years. Alas, I probably cannot do any EU work for the next week.

An idea came to me while playing EU tonight. Maybe the different tech types (latin, orthodox, muslim, exotic) all do cost the same, but the different types have modifiers for the 'expected' date to reach a specific level. This would assume the levels given in land/naval tech are for the latin tech type. The others would have some modifier to be applied to the expected date. So for example latin reaching tech 12 at date X. the others may be a X + (X * Y%) modifier.

This is just an idea...completely unverified by any type of investigation. A logical question would be what is the average tech level of each country of a particular tech type at the end of the game. This could give us some approximation of the scale.

Seeing we're just stating options here nayway, how about this one :

the tech group decides on ur neighbour bonus. If ur Latin, u get a bonus from the Latin countries when ur behind them, muslim from muslim and so on ...

wow, never thought of that. It would be easy to code too.

Well, it seems there is a high probably that you are correct here. In playing the Uzbeks, it seems that persia and turkey were the leading muslim powers. My neighbor bonus reflected this from the start. As the game progressed and like the borg, the uzbeks assemilated the Persian then the Mameluks this left turkey and the uzbeks as the leaders of the muslim world. I watched very closely as the turkey hit lvl 12 land tech and their army icons changed. At that point the Uzbeks (IRA) was at land tech 10 and getting +1 bonus. As soon as they hit 11, they were getting zero bonus. the numbers seem to be 0,1,2,4,6....for level difference in land tech. Also the neighbor bonuses may be different for each tech group.

IGC+ settings
Now keep in mind that by 1585-1590s spain was at lvl 12 land tech. 1600-1610's russians hit 12. Turkey hit 12 in 1615-1620 range. And the Uzbeks have not yet hit it. (pumped infra to 4.5 before having to get back to land tech investing. They were 5 levels behind the turks at one point (20ish years ago).

My guess is still that there is an expected date to reach a certain tech level and this is what keeps the leader in each tech in check. Also the neighbor bonuses may be different for each group (unconfirmed). A good test would probably to put spain in the muslim tech group, run a H.O. game and see what happens :)
