Chapter XI
May 14th 1936- Office of the Editor of the Times: Henry Williamson-
William Joyce: Are you aware of what we want you to do?
Henry Williamson: Yes Sir. Claim the previous editor died of a heart attack after finishing this piece you gave me and publish it. Then I am to remain here and help the Union in any way it requires.
William Joyce: Good, remember the British Union never forgets a favour, also it seems you are going to need a new secretary. It appears that Stewart was a bit fond of the old one, she has been reallocated to the Central Office of Stewart Radio.
Henry Williamson: No problem, I’m sure I can find a new one.
William Joyce: Also here is the day after tomorrow’s story.
Joyce handed Williamson a piece of paper with a few bullet points on it, it was titled “Larkin and bodyguard killed in gunfight in Ireland, art still missing.”
William Joyce: Make sure noone sees this until you get the word of confirmation via Reuters, but once you get that you are to spin it in accordance with those bullet points. Understood?
Henry Williamson: Yes Sir.
William Joyce: Finally, sometime this month there is to be an announcement that His Majesty will marry Wallis Simpson this summer, I trust you will be in favour of it?
Henry Williamson: Of course.
William Joyce: Good, now if you excuse me I have to move on. I’ve still got the Telegraph and the Daily Herald to go see.
June 16th 1936- Buckingham Palace-
Assistant: Good Morning, Your Majesty. Today you have two meetings, the first is with the Chancellor..
Edward VIII: Ah yes, how is Max?
Assistant: I hear he is doing well Your Majesty, apparently he is quite enamoured with his new secretary and rumours abound that he intends to marry her.
Edward VIII: Ah, I’m sure the husbands of London will be pleased to here this. Who is the second meeting with?
Assistant: The recently appointed Chief of the Imperial General Staff Major-General Fuller.
Edward VIII: Isn’t the Chief of Staff usually a higher rank than that?
Assistant: Well yes Your Majesty and Mr Fuller was offered automatic promotion to General, but he refused.
Edward VIII: Strange. Where are my meetings?
Assistant: Well the first is at the Highgate golf club Mr Stewart purchased last month, he intends to discuss with you a plan he has for the Radio in the Your Majesty’s realms. The second is at Your Majesty’s office here and I believe Major-General Fuller intends to present you with his grand design for the British military.
Edward VIII: Interesting, and when is the first one?
Assistant: Two hours Your Majesty.
Edward VIII: Then I shall have some breakfast before setting off.
Next time... We get back to the present with some black and flammable developments.
