What are the best free tool, applications and websites to use to modify this game in its entirety?

I know blender for making models.

What about textures?

What site are people using to get their hieghtmaps in grayscale to make maps? And how are they downloading them?

A good free application for creating grayscales for map making?

Thanks for your help guys and gals.

A nice tool to transform Bumpmaps into Normal Maps

EDIT : WARNING !!! After using this tool you MUST reopen the normal in photoshop (or any picture edition prog) and invert the red channel (or you'll get left/right shadows inverted).
