The best player for each country

It has been a while since we had a 'who is the best player' thread. Always fun. And I am a bit bored.

But this time I wanted to make it more specific to 'who is the best player for a certain country'.
And you only can list a player once. So no Damocles for France, the Ottomans and Austria :D
And no listing of yourself.

This would lead to a sort of ideal roster for the ideal multiplayer game. A wet dream coming true for any lurker following threads.

I kick off:

  • Denmark - King John
  • Sweden - Slargos
  • England - The Archduke
  • France - RedPhoenix
  • Spain - BiB
  • Portugal - Barnius
  • Venice - Tonio
  • Austria - Damocles
  • The Ottoman Empire - Peter Ebbesen
  • Poland - HolisticGod
  • Russia - Fredrik
  • Brandenburg - Wyvern
  • The Netherlands - Mulliman

Does RedPhoenix even still play anymore?

It is touching though, how everyone thinks I should be a land locked nation surrounded by a phalanx of the most merciless powergamers. I suspect it has less to do with my ability, so much as poetic justice to be inflicted. :rofl: And to top it off, both of you want BiB to be my Spain! I can't imagine a worse enemy for a Damoclean Austria. He'd starve me of funding, and go for Italy himself, or prop up some strange country like Poland or Brandenburg as a replacement, just to be contrary ;).

Ah well. I'd play even the Netherlands to get in the same game as BiB, Peter E and Slargos again.

I'm actually hoping to play Russia in one of the games after FN and BF3 ends. And I'm hoping to start one that takes into account my suggestion of halving trade in the rest of the world and doubling it in Europe.

On topic though....

In my opinion, the best player of a country, is one that can fulfill it's geopolitical destiny to the absolute best of his ability. So you don't really arrive at individual players, so much as types of players. Many of the players listed above for the slots are the same types, irrespective of who it actually is.

Sometimes, this is more subtle. Sometimes, it is glaringly obvious, like the below;

A Good England -
Ozzeh
Archduke
Fredric

A Good Portugal -
Daniel A
Bocaj
Balinus

Notice the different mindsets and personalities of those players.

Beyond that, you have three types of players.

Player Type A can do well in France, Russia, Austria and the Ottoman Empire.

Player Type B can do well in the above, but they can also make 'second tier' continental nations like Sweden, Netherlands, Poland, Brandenburg and Venice ahistorically strong.

EDIT: Sweden flips from Type A to Type B, depending on if there is a Polish/Brandenburg player.

Player Type C can go one more, and do something rediculous like make a third tier nation like Persia, the Mughal Empire or Denmark into a powerhouse. This would be Peter Ebbesen. Strangely however, a Player Type B won't neccessarily play a better France then Player Type A. Nor will a Player Type C play a better Sweden or Poland then a Player Type B.

It's just how they're wired.

Hmm one of those threads where the same people vote for each other. :D

Anyhow, I think it's a bit difficult to determine. Really, no one have checked all played games to make a fair judgement. I see player X do very well as nation Y in the current game, but it doesn't mean somebody have or could do it better. Nor are other opinions here up-to-date.

For example, if I was to judge the OE, I can say I've seen two games with massive OEs created by Devil and Daniel A. However, I probably have not read about 90-95% of the "strong OEs" that ever have been created in EU2 MP. Additionally, it also depends on the opposition how strong one may get.

Then again, I'm sure you're already aware of this problem so I'll let this deranged thread go on. ;)

Thats key. And it's these kind of threads which allow us to quantify that ;). So that if I've never played with someone before, I can see if their regular group thinks they are really good at a country, and it gives a bit of perspective.

I'm only good in diplomacy though. Trading nation : I'm no good at it!

edit - I think you made a typo in fact. You meant Barnius right?

I played only few serious multiplayer games, so my opinion is not very authoritative, but this is my "list of ideal game":

1. Austria - King John

2. Brandenburg - Frederik

3. China - Bocaj

4. England - Cheech

5. France - Mulliman

6. Ottoman Empire - Dago

7. Poland - almost in all of games in which I participated I toke POL shield, so I do not know how others play this country :D . But I think Drake could be good Poland.

8. Russia - Tonio

9. Spain - Holistic God

10. Sweden - Temujin

For this roster I would actually go to some length to play. :eek:

Even better, Fredrik doesn't seem to be represented. ;)

first of all i don't think i ever played venice in mp game.......
 
I am awfully suprised that i was featured on those lists, seeing as i can no longer fight or manage my country lest my connection perform a seppuku...


EDIT: And i finally managed to get online ;). Sorry for the missed sessions.

can't really make a accurate list since everybody has his own as shown by other posters

my list more or less
-kj is the most annoyng austria and bb i have ever seen

-bocaj is the only 1i know that pulled of a reformed port and made it strong
beat up spain then held vs spain+france (drew got raped in spain :) )
also fought a 27year war as netherlands where he got ganged by kj ect and came out of it loosing only 1prov to france iirc this gang lead to destruction of kj denmark

-tonio made the richest poland in a highly competive game i can remember and keeping his provs under alot of gangs , in 1 of the no games and did the same in ie1 or 2 not sure anymore

-slargos his sweden last game wasn't really impressive since he got a free/easy ride entire first half

-kj made strongest denmark till it got destroyed by me then again by sweden 2gov collapses in 1session :p

-and i have yet to see a england that can be realy be commended since most people that grow powerful here just hypertech half the game and that isn't special or exceptional other half ussually grow strong due lack of competition

-spain : tonio , kj and bocaj all made very strong spain before
 
Drake is largely correct in his remarks.

A "who's the best country X player" list is worthless.

I know which players I consider to be the best in the community. They get on this list because they will usually excel whichever country they command.

Any performance will depend on a combination of:

- player skill
- luck of the dice
- general level of competence in the game
- specific level of competence of immediate neighbours

Saying this or that player does the best country X is thus rendered completely meaningless without also adding the circumstances around their play. Subsequently, the circumstances are so hard to quantify, attempting to do so will be meaningless.
