The political map is a mess, after King William the Conqueror died their has been no real strong leader in charge. There was a massive power vaccuum and at one point the King of Frace was the King of England too. Now however thr Nordic Kingdoms are getting involved and the Duke of Wessex is leading a revolt against the throne.
