I want to start playing some EU4 as I feel like it's the most diverse game of the Big Four and has the most alt history potential but I just don't know where to really get started...

I watched some youtube vids, none of which were that helpful... They're all a bit to long in their explanation and I have some trouble understanding everything. It's also a bit hard to learn by myself as I always start by losing money...

I've played a game as the Ottomans and thought I did ok but I definitely didn't understand everything I was doing. So, any crucial tips? Or youtube vids that I can't miss out on?

Ya in the wrong place. This is for the new super secret game with the code name Project Caesar. A new fun installment in the GSG genre made by Paradox; a Swedish based studio who are famous for a number of their GSGs. You are referring to a game that has already released, in which case you should go to that section of the forum rather than this one, which as we all know, is dedicated to the new super secret game with the code name Project Caesar. A game being produced by Paradox Interactive's Tinto studio based out of Spain. This new secret game with the code name Project Caesar is known to have nothing to do with previous titles such as Europa Universalis Four. As such, you should head over there and ask that question in the relevant forum as this section of the forum is dedicated to the new super secret game with the code name Project Caesar; which many have speculated to be a successor to Europa Universalis Four, but, in fact, is not Europa Universalis Four in fact. It is the new super secret game with the code name Project Caesar based in 1337. The game in which you are referencing begins in 1444 and as such cannot be the new super secret game with the code name Project Caesar as it begins in 1337. Also, you may wish to check out a completely unrelated game with similar concepts to be releasing soon, it is known as the new super secret game with the code name Project Caesar! And luckily you are here already!

Crazy, I was crazy once. They put me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room with rats, and rats make me crazy. Crazy?

You're in the section for the as-of-yet unreleased Europa Universalis 5. For which I can't give you much tips, because I haven't played it because it isn't released.

Maybe a mod could move this thread to the right section?

Anyway, it's kinda hard to help you here if you can't mention a specific thing. Which areas/mechanics cause you the most problems right now?

Also, how far did you play, and what does your economy tab look like? To try to judge what are the issues with the money here.

(Please excuse the craziness of the fellows up here. The continued lack of a release date for EU5 has been a test to our strength and our resolve.)

3 tips
1. The real life approach, the quantity approach. It means we should choose more gold and more troop instead of prestige or faster tech or bonus. Quantity have a quality on its own.
2. Running away is the best military tactic. Always meet enemy with advantages. If we don't have advantages, consider run away and return another day. Don't fight "fair" fight.
3. Annex the weaks and becomes strong. Active looking for the weaks and don't attack the strong. Expand toward gold. One colonist will help you become neighbour of the weaks much easiser.

So, any crucial tips?

  • Don't declare a war without Casus Belli.
  • Always keep upgraded your military technology.
  • Make sure your army has general most of the times.
  • Keep your stability 0 or positive.
  • Don't spend monarch points (admin, diplomacy, military points) on unnecessary things.
  • Learn by playing not watching.
  • Read the tooltips.
  • Keeping cavalry at 3k or 4k is enough (if you are not playing a Horde) , for example image 15k army; 11 infantry + 4 cavalry or if you have enough technology to build artillery you can 11k infantry +3 cavalry + 1 artillery.

Try to follow the country's missions. Ottomans is good for beginners; Castile too. Try to expand, either by conquering land, subjugating vassals, or diploannexing small countries.

When I was playing a few years ago there was a group doing multiplayer and they invited new players to play with them and would advice you on stuff when you had a question about it. Can't remember what the group was called since I only played with them twice but maybe someone else knows of a similar group that does co-op multiplayer?

It can be a lot to take in when you first start playing. I fucked up so much when I started on EU3 and then on EU4 and soon we'll be moving onto EU5 when it comes out.
