I can't seem to uninstall, repair, or reinstall the game, which is a problem, because it doesn't start up and when it does a bunch of files are missing, like the images four just about everything.

What happens, even after I delete my HoI2 folder and all registry keys, is when I go to repair or uninstall, it'll say "Uninstalling core components", then it will say "Component Transfer Error - Error: The parameter is incorrect."

It should be noted I tried to uninstall before deleting everything and have it still in my recycle bin, but that isn't the point, my HoI2 career is effectively over if I can't find a solution to this uninstalling problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

replace everything back into its place.

Then follow the sticky about manually uninstalling the game.

You should be okay then

Same Problem, more information

I had purchase Doomsday from GamersGate and used their downloader.

I get a very long startup and then pop-ups infoming me that a number of .bmp are not available (Abort, retry, ignore). selected ignore for all and system hangsup.

checked regedit and looked at Paradox Interactive.
values are there for Hearts of Iron 2, but

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron 2
default REG_SZ (Value not set)
ap REG_SZ C:\Program Files\...\Hearts of Iron 2\hoi2.exe
CD REG_SZ E:/
lang REG_SZ English
path REG_SZ C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron 2
run REG_SZ enable
uninstall REG_SZ RunDll32 C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\engine\6\INTEL3~1\Ctor.dll,LaunchSetup "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{98786147-80E3-41A5-A80C-1F3C028558CF}\Setup.exe" -l0x9
version REG_SZ 1.01.0.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday
default REG_SZ (Value not set)
lang REG_SZ English
version REG_SZ 1.03.0.0

There is no Doomsday in the add/remove programs in the control panel

I am trying to run HOI2 now and have and have got a GFX/palette/T-Nuclearsubmarine C-Min.bmp not found selected ignore and then I get an 'this program needs to close" and aborts. Sent report to MS

I'm having the same issue (also downloaded DD from Gamersgate), except in addition to the "GFX/palette/T-Nuclearsubmarine C-Min.bmp not found" error I also get "T-NUCLEAR_SUBMARINE C-MIN L-1.bmp not found", followed by a "couldn't open file: db\units\divisions\nuclear_submarine.txt" error message, THEN I get the 'this program needs to close' and 'send error report to microsoft' crash to desktop deal.
Whaddup wid dat?

Ok now the issue makes sense when you installed Armageddon did you look at the path it was trying to install to. It has a habbit of installing in the wrong path and you have to manually set it.

Okay. To what path shall I manually set it? (I'd simply uninstall and start over, but I get a "catastrophic error" when try that.)

You have to set it to the path you installed DOomsday

That didn't work. Since I can't uninstall HOI 2, I tried uninstalling Doomsday (successfully), trashed what I could of HOI 2 (I assume bits of it are still in my registry), reloaded HOI 2 from my CD-ROM, re-downloaded and reinstalled Doomsday (from Gamersgate), reinstalled the Doomsday patch, but did NOT reinstall the Armageddon patches . . . and nothing has changed. It still hangs at "initializing globals", gives the "can't find . . . T-CARRIER_ESCORT" and "can't find . . . T-NUCLEAR_SUBMARINE" error boxes, then the "couldn't open file: db\units\divisions\nuclear_submarine.txt" error box, then closes with the MS "send error report".
What next?

Uninstall HOI2 (both Doomsday and the regular one) by following the Uninstall sticky at the top of this forum..

Then install HOI2 DD and Patch to 1.3.

If that works then install Arma and patch to 1.1 Arma.

Uninstall Sticky for HOI 2

"Uninstall HOI2 (both Doomsday and the regular one) by following the Uninstall sticky at the top of this forum."

Uhhhhhh . . . Sorry, I guess I'm a complete idiot because I can't find any "stickies" anywhere in any forum-- only replies to stickies as parts of threads.
How done one look for stickies? Where is thie sticky at the "top of this forum"?

Failure to Launch DD after uninstall/reinstall

Uninstall of HOI 2 was successful. I installed Doomsday (just Doomsday, not HOI 2 from my old CD-ROM) and the 1.3 patch. Now it won't even start loading. Instead, I get a pop-up error with the title "Hearts of Iron 2 Beta" which reads, "Please install the latest milestone."
After clicking "OK" I get the MS "Hearts of Iron 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close" with the "Send Error Report" option.

You are not installing the right patch.

Do the following

1. Manually uninstall HOI2 DD
2. Go here and download this patch Patch for DD -- Rename it if you like once you have downloaded it
3. Install HOI2 DD
4. Install HOI2 DD Patch 1.3
5. Verify game works
6. If game works -- Install Arma
7. Verify that game still works
8. If game still works -- Install Arma 1.1 patch.

Corey

Does the game work before you install the patch?

If so then i am thinking that the patch is not detecting the path correctly where HOI2 DD is installed

Can you try this?

1. Uninstall HOI2DD (use sticky). Make sure that all icons for the game on your desktop are deleted.

2. Install HOI2 DD -- to a directory called c:\testgames
3. Test to see that the game works.
4. If it works -- install the patch .. make sure the path where the path is going to install matches the one above. Manually change it if that is the case.

5. Try the game..

Hope this works.

Otherwise the next step may be to redownload HOI2 DD from Gamersgate.. that is where you bought it right?

Corey

Okay-- I uninstalled DD, removed shortcut from desktop, and redownloaded/installed to c:\testgames. What is in that folder is 313mb (which is what GamersGate says is in fact the size of the download) of data which includes a text document, file called "ctrlDl-DD-PDX 10" (which corresponds to the product ID given to HOI II Doomsday by GamersGate), and a folder labeled DD-PDX 10 containing 22 setup files (.bin), a text document, and another folder labeled "ggdata" which contains a DAT file titled "launch".
Since there is no launch icon and I don't know how to make the DAT file run, I am at a loss as to how to launch the game in order to see if it works.
I also don't know how to send the 1.3a patch to the path "c:\testgames" as it just automatically sends itself to c:\program files\paradox . . .
(I ain't too skilled none at 'puter stuff.)

The game should have created a folder in the start/all programs(or programs if you are in standard display mode)/Paradox interactive/doomsday folder

Try that -- does the game work?
