(Sorry if that reply is too late) What you need to do is to acquire an HRE province, then lose all your other provinces which will automatically move your capital to your last remaining province, which happens to be in the HRE, so you become a prince of the HRE. This strategy works as any religion, in fact it is the only way to join the HRE as a non-Christian country (did this once as Sunni Granada).
