I have been playin hoi2 for almost a yr now and i regularly play mp with on of my friends. Since we updated to the 1.3b patch it hasnt worked. We figured out it isnt a communication problem with the computers (why this post is here). So we decided to uninstall and install from scratch. On his end everything is fine now, however on my end when i uninstalled and reinstalled the game seems to have all my old settings.

I have used the uninstall exe that comes with the game and the uninstall thro the cd, but neither have worked, my settings are still there and so im assuming the problem we are having is too. The game also states that when i patch from a fresh install that the 1.3 patch is already there, but surely if i uninstall the probgram it shouldnt be there.

read how to uninstall HOI2. See if that helps

Amazing what you can find if you look at the sticky thread titles. ;)

uninstall blues

i downlaaded the patch 1.3 and it really fouled things up. i decided to start froms scratch but the game was impossible to uninstall because of 'catastrophic' core file problems that appeared after the patch. i deleted as much as i could in other files the did a system restore before i loaded the game. it has been working great ever since. i can't really say why.

Well if you read the uninstall instructions in that link it explians how to uninstall manually.

I read this and I believe I did everything it askes/told me to do and yet I still get Catastophic Error..Core Components(sp)...Can you run me the entire process PLEASE!...

When do you get the error?
The uninstall is only if you cannot get the game to install because it only gives you the repair install option.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem. I just change my comp, and reinstalled the game, but I cannot play, cause it runs the video, and when the three big appears, either when initializin sound or initializing interface, the process stops and then it just says "Hearts of Iron 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and sends a report.

I have tried the manual uninstall, but when I put the CD back, is opens as installed. And I can only reinstall, cuase uninstall always bloks...

Any idea of what can I do?

Thanks

Not sure I understand what you are saying.
You tried to manually uninstall but could not?

Anyway here is my standard advice to try first.
1) Make sure you have the latest patch for the game.
2) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
3) Set the color depth to 16BIT
4) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
5) Run a Virus check and a Adware/Spybot checker
6) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-4.

The install/uninstall problem was solved. I can install or uninstall, but the game is not running. It gets to initializing interface and then doesn't advances. If I try to press any key, or even if not, still apears the same notice and the failure report to send... (now the video is not shown when starting)

1. Patch 1.3a installed
2. avi changed by avi_back
3. Other programs closed
4. 32 to 16 bit done
5. No spyware or virus found

More ideas? thanks

Well the videos will not play because renaming the AVI folder disabled them, this was intentional, let's leave them disabled since it eliminates some problems.

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.

Okay two things pop out at me.
1) YOur video driver is way out of date, you should upgrade that ASAP.
2) I am also concerned about the lack of free space on your C drive. This could interfere with many things most notably the Virtual memory, and I sure hope you were running something in the back ground when you ran the DXdiag because you were already using close to half a gig of your virtual memory.

K. I guess that explains what is happening. Jus to be sure, thi is what is being reported to MS every time I try to run HOI:

C:\DOCUME~1\Pipe\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb862.dir00\HoI2.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Pipe\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERb862.dir00\appcompat.txt

Have you had a chance to fix those problems?
Did it help?
