First, let me congratulate to all involved in making CORE mod on the great job you made. I especially like the industrial and resource model. Heck, I thought I was "cured" from HoI2, but than CORE came again and... :)

The question I have is maybe more related to the vanilla, but since I don't know if you changed anything I'm posting it here:

How are calculated costs and required time for unit upgrade? As a part of what would new unit cost or the difference between old and new technology?

If I observed correctly units which are very obsolete (more than two levels behind the current technology) get upgradead quicker - there is some bonus involved, right?

As far as I know this is governed by two things - first there is a general number in a file called misc.txt that sets the basic multiplier for upgrade time and cost. Second each unit model has a cost and a time multiplier assigned to them which combined with the value from misc.txt results in the actual time and cost to upgrade.

There are no inherent bonuses for upgrading old units (just look at the Soviet Union!), though the next level of unit from that old one may have very low values for time and/or cost associated with it that makes the upgrade very quick (in that particular case).

Hope that answers your question - good to hear you like the mod!

ehm... my question concerning upgrading: is there a difference between upgrading a unit with... lets say 50% strenght on the one hand and 100% on the other?

so is it worth to upgrade units before reinforce?

I don't know exactly, but I would say that it doesn't make any difference.

This is not true. Units upgrade faster if they are more than one model obsolete.

If you have researched, say, model 5, upgrading from 4 to 5 takes the normal upgrade time.
Upgrading from 3 to 4 is 2x faster.
Upgrading from 2 to 3 is 4x faster.
Upgrading from 1 to 2 is 8x faster.
and so on...

That way (ignoring other factors), upgrading an obsolete unit is always better than scrapping it and building a new one, although the difference becomes marginal if you have to upgrade several model levels.

I looked in the misc.txt and noticed that parameters "upgrade cost" and "upgrade time" are set to 1.0. Where can I see "unit model upgrade modifier"?

These modifiers are located in the unit files under db/units/divisions/unitname.txt or db/units/divisions/brigadename.txt

Hi,

A couple things to rmember.

1. There is a difference between old and obsolete. Getting the Tech research to allow you the new models in some cases is very beneficial to cutting upgrade costs.

2. There are also Slider effects to remember. It is completely possible for a Drafted Army nation to end up paying more to upgrade than to build. this isn't something we have any control over and I really don't like it, but there is no proper way around it either.
