Unknown 1.05 problem

I'm having a problem with loading any scenario. As soon as I select a scenario and press the start button, the game drops to the desktop. This problem does not occur if I do not have 1.05 installed. I've tried just about everything recommended that has been posted the past months. Anyway, here's my info.

Gateway
Pentium 4-M 1.6 G
256 MB
Windows XP (DirectX 8.1)

try this link to uninstall the game.

then proceed to reinstall. I don't know what's wrong, but obviously, something is not ok

Make sure you have the latest patch for Windows, Service pack #1 for XP and SP#1 doe IE 6.0
