I am currently playing as Khazaria (using the playable non-christian mod) w/ DVIP, latest game patch.. anddd.. this has been the most frustrating game so far. XD

My nation started out as Jewish, however, when the king died, it all went to his infant.. who is.. Turkish.. Pagan (?). He was married to a nice Jewish girl and all, why is the kid Pagan? Anywayyy, I'll accept that. Now that the king is 'Pagan', his titles convert to 'High Chief' instead of the previous Duke.

I am thinking his Jewish brother could inherit soon, even if I have to 'quicken' his death, but no, he converts to paganism too. :p I switch my succession to oldest male child or female child, crossing my fingers for a female Jewish child to pull through. Then I get my king a Jewish wife for hopefully a few Jewish kids. However, she, uh, rebelled after giving her several lots of land and I just realized she became a pagan as well.

a. One question.. how is conversion of characters handled? Why do they convert? Is the target religion dependent on their region's religion or the king's religion?

b. This is kinda unrelated, but what would happen if my character is defeated by a sibling? Do I .. lose or just switch over in point of view to the sibling because the family is still alive?

a) The religion a characters gets at birth is the religion of his father. There are events that can change the religion of a character to the religion of the realm (= the religion of the highest ruler of a realm). So if f.e. you have a jewish child in a pagan court who finishes a ecclestial education then the religion of that child will convert to pagan.

b) If you lose all the titles your current character has (even to a relative) then I think it is game-over. I never have encountered that situation so I am not entirely sure, just try it and see what happens I would say :)

Just went back to an earlier save and my king / queen were indeed both Jewish. Though, uh... a couple of my male children did happen to be revealed as bastards (I KNEW those 'queen seeing male bachelor in the court' events were more than they seemed :eek:o), so, perhaps the kid adopted the religion of his real father and was never revealed.

I think this calls for a uprising by the court and people to place his little (Jewish) sister on the throne, which may need some direct intervention to make sure she's first in line. Or give the sibling revolt theory a try. I love this game.

No, that can't be the case.
