I tried using valkyrienet for the 1st time today, and expected my firewall to go nuts. (Windows Firewall)

I managed to get onto the chat screen and choose the HOI_2 channel, then I saw some people chatting, I typed in to say something, smashed enter and nothing happens. I ALT+TAB'd to check to see if my Firewall blocked me, and as expected it did, I hit unblock and restarted ARM.

This time I go back into VN and choose the HOI_2, and there is nothing, not users not even a Host option, its blank.

Restarted my PC to no avail. I cannot see anything once I go into HOI_2.

Help?

Do you have any other programs besides Windows Firewall, like McAfee or Norton that could be causing problems? Those programs have firewalls of their own I do believe.

Nothing has flared up elsewhere. But during one attempt I had something called 'Game Helper' or something popup on my Windows Firewall. I thought it had something to do with VN and unblocked it. Hang on let me check my exceptions...

Ah there it is 'Microsoft Direct Play helper'.

I have Avast! 4 Home and no other firewall system that I can think of. I can't see what else would block this.

By default, DirectPlay uses multi-threaded programming techniques and requires careful thought to avoid the usual threading issues. Since DirectX version 9, this issue can be resolved at the expense of efficiency.
That's what Wikipedia says about it. So what version of DirectX are you using? It could be a DirectX issue, if I'm correctly interpreting what Wikipedia says. Try updating it online, but make sure your video card is compatible. Older 8,16,and 32Mb models might be a little outdated to run the newer versions.

Ah. Did you restart your computer and check? Restart the computer, then go to "Run" under the start menu and when the dialog box appears, type dxdiag. That's a system diagnostic tool created by DirectX. Check what version you are running. If it didn't update the DirectX version then the only other thing that I can think of is to uninstall your firewalls - but that could prove to be ugly.

I did use dxdiag to get the version after the update. Still no joy on the restart. :(

Try reinstalling the game without that mod.
