Summary

Varangian adventure leaves court in original province

Description

I launched a Varangian adventure. A while later I realized that my kids were still in my original county. (the title of which I no longer hold) These characters cannot be invited though because they are marked as being "in my court" in my original county.

Even cheats can't get the characters back in my own court and out of foreign control because the game things my court is still in my original province.

Steps to reproduce

Start a game as a viking, do a varangian adventure. Notice that wife and children are still in your original province. Both of my reproductions were with provinces right on the edge of my diplomacy range. (notably, I don't actually have diplo range to my original province from my new territory) I have no season 2 DLC.

I think it is the internal set_realm_capital that needs to be looked at. I have had problems in the past with Varangian adventures. Do you experience these too?

Are you able to assign guardians to your children as usual?
I can set education, but the count of my old province seems to be able to create betrothals and marriages. It seems like we share control. Nothing seems to cause them to move though.

The members of my court that were in the invasion army are in the new province, all the knights and my main dude.

I haven't done much with activities, I don't have the relevant DLCs so there isn't much there to look at. It seems like I can invite people from the old court, obviously their travel times are extremely long.

No inheritance issues with my old provinces that I can see.

I really hope they aren't related and this hasn't just been completely broken for monthes. :p

No amount of moving my capital. My speculative assumption is that this has something to do with not having the season 2 DLC, because the bug 100% reproducible, I can launch any number of varangian invasions in one save game or multiple savegames and they are always completely broken in this way.

As a further test I launched another varangian invasion. My character is now in England, my wife and my original set of kids are in scandinavia, my son that was born in northern germany is still in northern germany.

Just a little extra context.

My spymaster is in "my court" in the original province, my Hofgodi is in my actual court.

I have Wards and Wardens and Tours and I see the same after a Varangian Adventure. My old courtiers and children left behind in the old capital province. Had not noticed the betrothal issue.

So, if you move your capital back to the original province by some means, that will pick up the stray courtiers. Obviously that requires either conquering or cheating control over the province.

I used a cheat to take control of my original county and moved my capital back, then moved my capital to the duchy capital of my top title. That successfully picks up the countiers left behind in those provinces. This is all just me testing things out, not really a viable workaround.

Doing this only picks up the courtiers in that one county, in case you have left strays in multiple places from multiple adventures.
