Vassalize, then annex?

I'm currently playing the Netherlands and I've managed to vassalize both Helvetia and Scotland. I thought I was supposed to get a chance to annex them after 10 years, assuming my relations with them were good enough. It's been almost 25 years, and I didn't get a single chance to annex either of them. Am I missing something here, or is it just me. Any help on this subject would be helpfull.
 
Yes I do. I've managed to conquer and annex my way to Alsace and Baden. I actually thought this was the problem, but now I do share a border (with Helvetia at least) and it still isn't working.
 
so you're saying the option is not highlited? well then make sure that:

1. you do not have a trade embargo against your vassal
2. you really do have a common border
3. they or you are not a war with anybody

that's all (I think). Also of course, you have to have +190 relations for at least 10 years, but I'm assuming you know that.
 
remember that random event trade embargo against all nations for 36 months are in effect a trade embargo against your vassal. People tend to forget that. :D
 
Well, now I'm getting confused, cos I just checked and neither me nor Helvetia was at war, relations are +195, we have a common border etcetera. Oh well, I'll try to get a common border with the Scots and try them.
Btw, when I do have a common border, do I have to wait another 10 years for I get my chance?
 
I don't think you have to wait 10 more years. Also, when you put the cursor over the unhighlighted annex option it should tell you the requirements in a few seconds. Same religion? RM expired somehow? I'm at work so I can't be much help. Sorry.
 
Yes, I think that is the one

ingredient missing. I know you have to have a royal marriage, alliance, and relations above +190 to vassalize. So I assume the same holds true to annex.

Yes, you need to be in the same alliance.

I'm having trouble getting the option to vassalize the Hanseatic League. We have relations above 190, same alliance, Royal marriage, even a common boarder (which isn't needed). I NOW have 6 proviences to their 5. I'm playing with IGC 2.0f with the Super Hansa enabled.
 
Sounds awful complicated, just attack! Slaughter those that resist. Make many babies with their women. Torture them if they try to speak their own language and soon you too can be part of England :)
