OK Patric,

Back to my first question then:

So Patric,

Back to the original question.....when will the 1.09 patch be out. Sorry to push but, I don't want to get too into a game and then find that a new patch will mean starting over to get the fixes.

Hope you can help.

Thanks, Ice:cool:

I installed the game and patch 1.08 on my first PC (K6-3@450, TNT2U video, 384M RAM, W98se) and it ran pretty well, though a touch slow here and there. the time it takes to load or save a game seems ludicrous, considering how small the files are (2 megs). I installed it on my second PC (Duron 750, TNT video, 128M RAM, W98se) and didn't patch it from 1.07e, cuz I had an internet conxn prob, and the game was slow! Well, starting it up and ending it, anyway, and I got it to crash on me a lot. I finally got 1.08 installed, and it works without crashing, but it's still a whole lot slower loading up data.

Something else I noticed... it sucked down almost the entire 384 megs on my first PC, and didn't let it go without a reboot. I'm glad that it's "using" this memory, cuz it's supposed to be faster than going to the HD all the time, but how the heck can it take so long to shift so much stuff around in mem? Cuz it's got mem leaks, that's how.

But technical problems aside, the only glaring flaw in this game is that it is not turn-based! These guys go and make this incredibly detailed world, and then screw it up by making it "real-time". They do almost everything in 1 month chunks anyway, so why not make it turn-based!!?? It would make life so much easier, and they wouldn't HAVE to have more intelligent AIs for your units that are starving to death. It also makes it a LOT easier to set up and restore network games. I HATE not being able to monitor the progress of numerous important expeditions into enemy territory and battles and so forth.

But that's my only big gripe. I have a few small ones, and I have CUBIC BUTT-TONS of praise for the game. Keep up the good work!

It does cancel alliances, unless the person that is changing religions is currently at war. It never breaks the royal marriages.

Lol, desktop crashes are minor bugs? I've had 4 or 5 out of the 15-20 games that I've played extensively (100+ years) become unplayable due to crashes. One recent game that I'm not including in those 15-20 became unplayable in May of 1519. I saved the game on approx. May 25th, 1519 after experiencing crashes on May 30th, 1519. It crashed over, and over, and over again. Probably tried about 10-15 times to get past May 30th, 1519. No dice. That's a minor bug? *scratch*

Crashes = major bug. Not being able to break royal marriages, religion changes not properly affecting royal marriages or alliances under certain circumstances = minor bug. I'm not sure what the stability issues are with the MP, but if they're severe enough that would also equate to a major bug.

Just trying to make sure that this thread is not forgoten about!???!.

let them do the job

Please IceCool,
don't insist on the release date and let them do the job.
They are on testing. Testing is a good thing to find further bugs.
It's not good for anybody, if they tell us a release date and therfore are forced to release it at an early stage even if they found further old or new made bugs...

Personally I do think that EU 1.08 is not perfect but it is at any rate far away from being an unplayable game. Despite some bugs the game forces me to spend many of my nights on it. And this happens to me first time since Civ2. So i just play it, have fun and wait for the patch.

Sometime i think some of you complaining guys should play Call to Power II from Activision. After this you would like to thank Paradox for their great game with a good AI and a good support. Unfortunatly i bought CTP II, finding a real bug contaminated game where the the AI is as bright as a dead fish and a company support that doesn't exist and is not far away from swindle. (The only positive thing: I will never buy an Activison game anymore)

I learned from this to check the forums before buying a game, and i learned from the EU forums that thi sgame has a great community and that paradox is supporting the game by reacting to the community's whishes. Therefore i bought EU.

1.09 is being tested right now and it will be available as soon as we are finished with that. Sorry, don't have a date as of now.

Hi horgel & Patric,

Please don't think there is anything negative about me pushing for the release date - I love this game.

This Forus is a sort of presure group for the manufaturers - if we're not happy it's bad for them.

Now if the game was not crashing I would not be pushing so hard, but it does. Now that is not a minor bug!!, I'd be happy to wait for almost anything else.

Also I wouldn't be pushing so hard if I didn't have to bin my current games that I'm playing to use the patch, it's almost like we're in a sort of limbo. Now if I've got that wrong I'd be happy to wait but I don't think I have??.

Keeping up the pressure ensures (in my view) better service which is all I'm trying to get - a product that does not crash.

Cheers, Ice:cool:

The only thing we are not listening to right now is pressure to release the update. Don't get me wrong here. We just want it to be rock solid and therefore we are letting several groups of people test it and it will not be out until we and the testers are satisified with the stability.

So I guess you have to wait until we are done.

:) Patric

Hi Patric,

I fully appriciate you wanting to ensure the next release is solid and totally support that.

I have worked in the manufaturing industry for a few years now - yes and we have major software products too. Perhaps I 'm too close to releases but, I have found that the amount of people working on a maintenance release (and hence not on your next revenue product), is directly proposional to the amount of customer pressure to get a fix.

Prehaps I just have bad experiences, but if I didn't love the product so much I wouldn't be bothering.

Don't you just luv them customers!!.:D

Cheers, Ice:cool:

Let's just look at it this way:

I have been waiting to play the game for a month now. I think the game is darn cool, yet I can only play if for short amounts of time. 1.08 was ok, but it still crashes for me, and it's really irritating.

Just look at it this way: Some games I have that crash haven't put out a patch for 2 months, at least Patric and others are putting work into finding a fix with a SECOND patch. Appreciation is hard to come by sometimes. Oh well.;)

the sound bug is only in the fantasy scenario, the only scenario that doesn't have anything to do with Europa Universalis. Play the GC or better yet the IGC.

The only real bug that I can see in 1.08 are:

1. desktop crashes
2. cannot break royal marriages
3. changing religion does not cancel your alliance or RM (even if otherwise noted)
4. MP stability issues

All fairly minor bugs.

Take the game off the shelve where you've put it and play the GC or IGC!! And if you really want to play the Fantasy scenario, when the sound bug occurs, just go to your save game and edit the counter relevant to the closure of japan and reset it to 0. There's a post that tells you exactly what to do.

have fun

Man, I seriously think you're on some good BC weed if you think it's acceptable for a game to be released to the public in the aforementioned condition. I really hope you're being sarcastic... those issues you mentioned are critical in certain conditions and annoying at best. <shakes head> Also, one of the only modes I play is based on the Fantasia setting, and the noise and crashes really suck. The GC is fine, but I also find it extremely confined and restricted for my gaming style- to brush it off (Fantasia) as unimportant just because you don't play it is a joke...
