I just bough EU I. I installed it and played a little. There seem to be a couple of bugs, the most obvious is that the scores seem to always be 0. So I tried to install version 1.10 (North American) but the installation halted with a:
Europa Universalis is not installed on this system
error message. Obviously, this is incorrect. I'm running Windows XP Pro. Help!
This never happened to me. I'd suggest to re-install it, in hope that things will be different. I suppose that something went wrong during the installation, because the points are supposed to work correctly, whether you have installed 1.10 or not.
If it still doesn't work, you can send a message on the Support forum, in the EU2 forums. Most of the participants have already owned and played EU1 before, so they might be able to help you.

This is almost always caused by having accidentally downloaded the incorrect country version patch for your game. Check the CD and/or box and let me know what publisher is listed is having supplied EU (Strategy First, UBI-Soft, Pan-Vision, etc.) and I'll point you towards the correct patch.
Given that the edition I have is definitely in English, and if the problem was that I had the wrong version of the upgrade, that really only left one possibility? So I downloaded the UK version and it seems to have installed fine.
I'm just trying to confirm the correct patch for you since many of the distribution copies are still produced in English but have different copy protection schemes...thus it doesn't necessarily mean that your version requires the UK patch but might use a slightly different one. I should have an answer for you very shortly.
This reminds me of a nasty episode I myself had regarding patches for EU 1.
When I tried to move from EU 1 1.07 (UK retail version) to patch 1.08 (also UK), it would install, but when I tried to run the patched copy, I also got the message 'EU CD not found'.
The 1.09 patch, on the other had, would run correctly, as did the boxed 1.07 version.
I turned out that with the 1.08 patch, the distributer screwed up the copy protection code in such a way that it would always fail on a system with two CD-ROM drives and an IDE ZIP drive (which I happened to own at the time)
Maybe something similar has happened with the 1.10 patch?
I think you'll have to completely remove EU from your hard drive to be able to install the patch now, but you could just try it right away, you never know.
JSussman...you should do the "complete uninstall" before loading and using the patch Viper provided, just to ensure that the patch correctly updates for you.
there was a problem with these versions reaching the US at some point and people having this problem. An announcement was made, back in those times It's still in the announcement forum though
I reinstalled the CD version (1.07)
Then I installed the 1.10 patch from the link in Viper's message (thanks Viper). The intro screen says version 1.10! Let's see if the bugs are gone.
